The publisher dropped a cryptic tweet containing the hashtag #SplitFiction and a little hint about “Switch 2,” triggering a flurry of discussions. The tweet had a rocket emoji and a gorilla emoji, so this could go either way regarding an alleged big move the publisher might consider doing. While some are roaring with excitement, others are madly clamoring for Battlefront 3.
The tweet is rather vague, simply stating “Ready for launch 💥🦍 #SplitFiction #Switch2,” and with, sadly, a link to… nothing concrete just yet really. But the replies? Oh, they really tell the story. Rather than sitting back and waiting to find out what SplitFiction really is, the players are just throwing all kinds of demands for Star Wars Battlefront 3 into the comment section. Like hardcore, aggressive demands, I might add.
One of the fans (@Matte63062667) bluntly responded: “Ea do Star Wars battlefront 3,” and then repeated himself later, in case EA didn’t understand the first time. Then @zyrentv comes on about Battlefront 2 DLCs—again, twice—because apparently, EA needs all these reminders. After that comes @Bleepyb00p, who brought up American McGee’s Alice and begged them to license it out if they are not going to revive it themselves.
But not everyone is screaming. @RMcqueso said that SplitFiction was a “phenomenal game,” worthy of a playthrough in co-op even though he’s already played it on PC and Xbox. @iboosting_pro sarcastically responded, “That might be the one and only reason to buy a Switch 2,” which kind of stings sarcastically.
So what is SplitFiction then? Excellent question. EA has uttered not one word, but at least the title indicates narrative-driven experiences, so maybe a sequel, maybe a port, or maybe something completely different. The real kicker is the mention of the Switch 2, though, since Nintendo’s next console isn’t even officially announced.
Being honest, these gamers commenting there are not much interested in SplitFiction right now, anyway. What they want is Battlefront 3. Or Battlefield Heroes. Or anything Star Wars-related, really, as long as it isn’t one more mobile game clocking in. EA has garnered the reputation for just turning a deaf ear to fan demands (RIP Titanfall 3), so maybe they’ll actually fulfill some this time.
One thing is for sure: if SplitFiction IS a Switch 2 exclusive, it better run like butter. Since the next Nintendo system is said to be more powerful, seeing EA’s record on Switch ports ain’t doing any favors. If it’s NOT Battlefront 3? Well… angry tweets incoming.
Until then, we wait. EA is running the whole mysterious angle, gamers are vocal, and Switch 2 is the worst-kept secret in the industry. Perhaps next week is when things clear up. Or maybe just a few more tweets with some vague emojis. Buckle up, what’ll happen.
