A hotfix for the Dying Light: Retouched Update was just released by Techland, and players have already started noticing the differences brought about by it. The patch deals with a funky glitch where a black car, with bizarre wall textures, was causing trouble in-game. But, of course, the community has soooo much bigger wishlist than just visual fixes.
But let’s circle back to what the hotfix actually addresses. According to the official tweet, it all boils down to those moments when immersion was broken because a car decided to go goth and turn black for no reason. The walls, of course, weren’t looking right either. So kudos to Techland for rushing these in. One user joked that, before the patch, his car was white instead of black, so…consistency, people!
This is when things started getting spicy. The reactions to Techland’s announcement are literally a MIXED BAG. Some players just beg for an FOV slider on consoles; an obnoxious scream into the void about the lack of field-of-view options is at least every third comment. Parity is joining in on the chorus: “GIVE US FOV SLIDERS ALREADY.” It’s come to a point that console platforms are being ignored while PC users flex their adjustable settings.
And then we have the whole debate about whether it’s a remaster at all or just some sort of update. Wacko, known as Leon, tried to say the former, and the internet absolutely shut him down. “Nah bro, it’s just an update,” one said. Another popped in quickly with “Not a thing.” This discourse is REALLY happening, and honestly? It’s kind of funny watching people argue about semantics over a patch that mostly changes a car’s colors.
JadeEmpire64 went on to flat-out demand an option for turning off motion blur on PlayStation. How the hell is this an issue in 2024? Let us turn it off if we want to.
Meanwhile, Harold Romero (Hman78) dropped the real question: Does this update go to the original Dying Light, or do you have to fork out cash for the fancy enhanced version? No news on that front yet, but fingers crossed for the OGs that have been there since day one.
Then we get our Switch 2 requests. At least three different people-CYPH3Rs_D0M41N_, Kneeckoh Gaming, and Armiustav-are already looking forward to a next-gen Nintendo version. Like, the console isn’t even officially announced yet, and people are already planning zombie-slaying escapades on it. Gotta appreciate the hustle.
Some players like Matt, aka Duranium1991, are just vibing, saying they have noticed no issues-and are having a blast replaying the game. Then there was the coldest take given by HM Gaming Station: “Literally nothing major after updating.. Better to play the original version.” Oof.
So yeah, nice hotfix and all, but the real story’s behind the community wishlist. FOV sliders, motion blur toggles, and next-gen upgrades in the background; Techland has a lot to sort through. Will they come through? Time will tell. Until then, the black car’s at least gotten fixed. Priorities, right?
