MSI Gaming just dropped the winners list for their DOOM The Dark Ages laptop giveaway, and well… reactions were mixed at best. The tweet congratulated the fortunate few in the attached picture and requested them to look out for DMs and emails for no more than 7 days with regard to claims of prizes, while if one scrolled down the comments, then Oof.
A hint of suspicion arose right there with the gamers, considering that almost all winners seem to be Americans when the whole thing was touted as a “global giveaway” @BIGBOIL00NY accused them by saying, “Shame on you for putting this as global giveaway and surprise everyone one of them is from usa.” Damn. That was echoed by @TharvinRajande1. “Global giveaway, but it seems all winner from us.”
Those conversations were filled with saltiness. @TerminusEclipse gave a classic: “Knew it never won these kinda giveaways having PC will Just be a dream for me duh,” while @KalaYugaa took it up a notch with, “Why God 😭😭😭😭,” after hoping they’d get their first-ever laptop. @igopgoku1 went with some brevity, saying, “i feel broken,” which honestly? Same vibes.
There were some folks who weren’t salty. @SharonVK15 was elated just to see a giveaway: “Congratulations thank you guys @msigaming expecting more like this.” @ChwastekJ kept it classy with “congratulations winners 🏆,” while @PhychoGoreman admired the hardware, saying, “It’s A really beautiful laptop.”
Now, for the spicy stuff – @Faizan_khan42 just triggered outright questioning of legitimacy: “Is it genuine?? Mention their handles @msigaming;” well, I guess that is a bold accusation. MSI hasn’t given any statement answering all these, but the internet detectives are doing the hard work analyzing the profiles of winners.
The giveaway was basically a promotion for DOOM The Dark Ages (of course) falsely tossed in with the RTXON hashtag, implying some seriously beefed-up RTX laptops. If you haven’t heard of MSI before, then let me quickly tell you that they are the largest gaming laptop manufacturer in the world. What a prize!
These are the situations that usually ignite controversies with gaming giveaways. Remember those “global but actually not” issues during the Cyberpunk 2077 giveaway? Or when the Steam Deck giveaway seemed suspiciously alleged to be bot accounts? Gamers will remember this forever.
Finally, congrats, the winners (if true). For all others, there’s always next time, or…well, just go buy a laptop. Would be boring, though, wouldn’t it? Winning for free is half the fun, even when winning is more rare than finding a shiny Pokémon in the wild.
MSI has not spoken anything related to sorting out the regional issues, but that is usually how it goes: they just sit back and let the criticisms blow over. Meanwhile, the DOOM hype train keeps rolling as The Dark Ages seems like another brutal entry into the franchise. Maybe the next one will actually feature a demonstrably global selection process.
We call out all those salty gamers in the replies – trust us, we feel for you. Nothing hurts quite like seeing the items you have dreamed of gaming with being taken by another. But chin up, there is always going to be another giveaway within reach. Probably. Maybe. Don’t quote me on that.
