In terms of first-person shooters, one of the most anticipated games for 2020 has to be Doom Eternal. It’s picking up right where Doom (2016) left off. That’s great news if you enjoyed the over-the-top action, metal music, and bevvy of weapons. By all accounts, Doom Eternal is shaping up to be the best installment to date.
The graphics look absolutely amazing and the action is just as intense as it has ever been. The weapons also look to be pretty varied. There are sniper rifles to pick off opponents from far away, shotguns for some up close and personal damage, and even an iconic chainsaw. Oh, and you can’t forget the BFG (Big Freaking Gun). It’s one of the coolest weapons in video game history.
If these weapons don’t get you excited, maybe the centered option will. That’s right. This classic feature that appeared in the earlier Doom games will be present in Doom Eternal, at least with some of the weapons. If you’re not familiar with this design, the gun your Slayer holsters is positioned in the center of the screen rather than left or right. It’s a pretty novel design that you don’t see a lot in first-person shooters, especially modern titles.
Back in the early days of video games, the center position for weapons was pretty common. Its purpose was to help players aim better for more accurate shots. It’s nice to see id Software include this optional retro feature to gamers who want to go back to simpler times, at least visually. To enable this center position, all players will have to do is adjust the settings in the menu.
The center position for select weapons is just another reason why gamers can’t wait to get their hands on Doom Eternal. The franchise is beloved for its non-stop action, but this latest installment seems to be dialing up that successful recipe to an eleven. That’s great news if you like going from demon to demon, causing utter chaos along the way.
Fans have been treated to a couple of trailers of Doom Eternal, and they really are indicating an amazing first-person shooter experience. It wouldn’t be surprising to see this game go on to become one of the most popular games of 2020. That’s how much fans love this franchise. How can you not like demonic monster killing with a bit of metal playing in the background? It all just works so nicely.
