Diablo IV Patch 2.2.2 was moderately received by the public, to say the least. The update was advertised with the short official tweet: “Your time has come, Wanderer 💀.” Yet, the reactions paint a very different picture.

First, let’s talk about the patch. These changes are kind of cryptic, just what makes the players head out of their minds. No patch notes have been linked explaining what all changes have been made or fixes implemented. Just a skull emoji with a download link. The classic Blizzard roll of the dice, if I might say so!

It’s all about the comments. The community is complaining about literally everything. Some are complaining about missing spectral ashes; they say Clayton Struthers had over 8k before the patch, and now they’re just gone? Others mention unfixable bugs such as invisible Aether Orbs while on Hordes mode for Xbox Series X; wardrobe woes are just as bad, with Psyr3n Princ3ss describing how it saved unequipped looks instead of transmogs as being “horrendous.”

Speaking of which, how can one forget about Diablo IV? Oh, the Spiritborn. Players are not happy. CinderGawd3 said they would stop playing and request a refund, describing the class as “trash.” KaRMiG in turn called it “SPIRIT-TURD.” Ouch.

These casualties form part of the others. Longtime fans like StealthyUSN are done. They’re in since Diablo 1 and calling Blizzard out for “destroying a beloved franchise.” Not alone, TeamRamTodd is pointing fingers at layoffs, AI, and toxic work environment for the demise of this game now.

In this atmosphere, it’s not all bad. Stardust11M31 is very excited, sprinting home to log in (there’s actually a running emoji here). Durly1718 is even joking about hell gates leading to Walmart. So, I presume, does that count as a silver lining?

In the end: This patch feels more like a bandage than a solution to a game hemorrhaging players. One thing that is sure to raise debate: Can Blizzard pull this turnaround? The community of Diablo surely will not give pause to this. And rightfully so.

So… yes, it came out: 2.2.2. But is it worth downloading? Depends on who you ask, and currently most are saying no.
