Apparently you can kill what’s already dead. According to TiMi Studios (or Activision, or whoever is behind the Call of Duty: Mobile Reddit account), despite it having been a highly requested feature, they’re officially removing Zombies Modes from Call of Duty: Mobile on March 25.

Fans had been requesting it for a while and it’s gotten a decent-to-good reception, so why pull it? According to the post, while the fans might have liked the mode, the developers themselves just weren’t too happy with how it turned out. As for justifying its removal, they mention the fact that the mode was launched as a limited feature, something they’ve made clear in the past.

We had always mentioned it was limited but with no explicit end-date. We wanted to see the reception, see the feedback, and see how we can potentially shape the mode for the future. However, the mode just didn’t reach the level of quality that we desire.

This means that the second map, Nacht Der Untoten, will not see the light of day. However, they do go on to say that if they can get the mode to a place that meets their particular standards, it could come back from the dead. Again. And it would be bringing Nacht Der Untoten with it.

This should please fans of the mode that are sad to see it go. It’s more than a “never say never” response, which really isn’t even saying anything. It’s an indication that the developers are still interested in working on the mode and getting it up to snuff. Call of Duty’s popularity is beyond measure, and Zombies Mode is both a staple of the series and one of its most coveted features. I wouldn’t count it out.

For those who played Zombies frequently, you’ll just have to settle for one of the other modes that the game offers. Hardpoint has proven popular enough that the team has made the mode a permanent addition to the game. You’ve also got Battle Royale, Warfare, One Shot One Kill, and whatever else is currently on offer. There’s never a shortage of content, especially with updates being released as frequently as they are.

We’ll be sure to let you know if and when they introduce Zombies Mode back into the app. As I said above, I really don’t think it’s down for the count. After all, coming back to life is sort of what they’re thing.
