The hype train for Destiny 2’s latest instalment, The Edge of Fate, really got on the move, and yet some have decided not to be a part of it. The last Bungie countdown tweet informed us that in just 56 days, new content will be released, further followed by an expansion Renegades after 196 days. Would Norman think that every Destiny fan would have been hyped up about this?… Well, the responses were indeed spicy.

First, I shall deliver the uncensored truth: The Edge of Fate is really the next big expansion for Destiny 2, touting an all-new story, loot, and lots of grinding. What can one say-resurgence of Renegades is still shrouded in secrecy-Bungie continues to very rarely tease us, like a rare exotic drop boss that has a 0.1% occurrence rate.

Now here’s the real kicker: the reactions. Some fans are overjoyed about it; Xboxguy141 is super-hyped about the difficulty changes and weapon reworks. Others? Not really. Malevolent96 called the expansions “mid,” while SrcasticGamer went all doom-and-gloom, yelling, “56 Days to keep my money and not give this company any of my resources.” Ouch.

And then, there are those oddly particular gripes. One reply claimed that Renegades was secretly a Fortnite DLC (thanks, dsc_nate), and candycougar1 added, “more excited for the Destiny mobile game than this junk.” Meanwhile, carlossaysstuff just copy-pasted the original tweet, changing the mad-expansion names to “Mid.” So crude.

But really, hope still exists, at least for some players, mostly because of the whispers of difficulty scaling and loot changes. Xboxguy141 got after that new system; it allows players to set difficulty levels which might offer something entirely new to much older content. Then PWBread kind of holds half-hope that The Edge of Fate will bring to fruition some serious loot meta changes for the better.

On the other hand, being Destiny, there is that other meme going around that says “Bungie shall never live to see another day.” YYZ2YGK retorted, “0 days since Bungie have embarrassed themselves regarding Marathon…”, because you cannot only dis another game while talking about a certain one.

So, what is conclusive? Mixed. Very mixed. Some Guardians are gearing up for another year of space magic and grind, while others are already prepping their “Destiny 2 is dead” think pieces. Will The Edge of Fate convert the skeptics? Only time—and surely another few Twitter meltdowns—can tell.

Meanwhile, if you are still in, mark your calendar now. Fifty-six days. Then we shall see if Bungie actually manages to pull this off or if the salt mines become even richer. Either way: entertaining.
