The Dead Silence perk in Modern Warfare 2 has been met with disapproval from beta gamers. Fans of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 demonstrate how this feature completely undermines any attempt at a stealthy takedown of the other team.

The second weekend of the beta has passed, and the Call of Duty community has expressed some worries about the game. Several problems have been reported for Modern Warfare 2, including a glitch that fills the screen with smoke, hacker vulnerabilities, and a preference for campers. Among these problems is a feature in the game that, upon closer inspection, has the reverse effect of what the Dead Silence perk is supposed to have.

The game uses a novel method, field upgrades, for its bonuses. In Modern Warfare 2, players can augment their custom classes with unique abilities that can only be used at specific points in the game. An accompanying animation activates the field upgrade and sounds an alarm, which the opposing team can hear if they are nearby. That’s the rub with the Dead Silence perk, which is meant to force players to be quiet.

Dead Silence is a feature used in past games to silence the player’s footsteps so they can sneak around undetected. A stealth-focused playstyle is possible with the right combination of strategic weapon and perks classes. Therefore it can no longer be used to the player’s benefit. Previous Call of Duty game Vanguard had complaints about field improvements, but this is a brand new problem in the current Modern Warfare 2 beta.

Since it is still in beta, the Modern Warfare 2 remake’s creators can adjust the game’s field upgrade elements to address these and any other problems that may arise. The beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has already resulted in changes for lobby disconnects and footstep audio issues, so it’s not out of the question that the team will address the Dead Silence problem before the game’s release if they consider it a game-breaker.
