Dave Filoni, who created some valiant animated series within the vast Star Wars universe, has much to share regarding Ahsoka Season 2; and fans are losing it. In a recent conference, he cited the second season as ‘big’ and ‘crazy,’ teasing in particular the return of the Mortis Gods. Yes, the ancient gods with spite from The Clone Wars.
For the reminder of the Mortis gods are only some kind of bizarre story-heavy tales about the Force. The Father, the Son, and the Daughter- the embodiments who are basically what is in the balance of the Force. And if Filoni, in some way, is going to make a live-action story? That’s major. Like, major in a way that “rewrite the Star Wars mythology” is going on.
But, uh, Filoni did not just say, “Oh yeah, he’s in it.” I mean, he went completely cryptic about it, saying it was “big” and “crazy,” which coming from the guy that gave us time-traveling wolves and World Between Worlds shenanigans means we are probably going to be in for something next level chaos. Force ghosts? Alternate timelines? Cosmic full-scale war? Who knows? But that’s hype heavy.
Now, let us focus on why this matters. The Mortis Gods aren’t just some random side stories; they pertain to the true essence of the Force. Having them in Ahsoka Season 2 may open the door to Star Wars exploration of mysticism, something fans have been yearning since time immemorial. And, of course, Filoni is not going to let you get through it without your mind being blown.
The Internet is rife with theories, from speculation about how Ahsoka may tie into Baylan Skoll’s mysterious bid for power, to those who think it simply sets the stage for an even bigger confrontation beyond Thrawn’s emergence. Oh and Ahsoka also has an intrinsic link to the Daughter, so this may become a full-circle moment for her character!
But will we finally know about the Mortis dagger now? Or will he keep us in obscurity again? Knowing him, the answer is probably both.
Without a doubt, Ahsoka Season 2 is going to be the most ambitious Star Wars story since Filoni last did something bonkers. And if the Mortis Gods are coming along for this ride, it could be one that makes the World Between Worlds look like child’s play.
