During last week’s E3 event, Square Enix revealed its newest game, Marvel’s Avengers. While the game’s character models have been the subject of some criticism, the gameplay is reportedly very crisp, with all of the heroes’ signature moves and animations looking exactly how they should look.
Crystal Dynamics, who is partnering up with Square Enix for the Avengers project, recently shared some new details regarding the game, confirming that it will, in fact, have microtransactions. However, unlike some other AAA titles, it won’t feature random loot boxes, as its microtransactions will strictly be limited to cosmetic items.
“There will be custom outfits that you can purchase in microtransactions,” said Crystal Dynamics lead Shaun Escayg while speaking with IGN.
On top of that, the game’s lead combat director, Vincent Napoli, told IGN that the outfits which will be available through microtransactions won’t have any impact on gameplay. So, as previously stated, the game’s microtransactions will be strictly for cosmetic purposes.
As of this writing, there has been no word on what the customization options will be in the upcoming Avengers game. However, it has been revealed who the game’s playable characters will be, as it’ll feature five playable heroes: Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, and Black Widow.

In addition to confirming that Marvel’s Avengers will feature cosmetic microtransactions, Crystal Dynamics also confirmed that any additional heroes, locations, or any other content related to the game that becomes available post-release will be completely free. Of course, the developer didn’t get into specifics about which characters and locations they’re planning to add after the game is released.
Marvel’s Avengers is currently scheduled to launch on May 15, 2020, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. There will be a beta for the game that’ll be released pre-launch, and PlayStation users will get it before anyone else.
As a reward for taking part in the pre-release beta for Marvel’s Avengers. PlayStation users will be given a few unique items that’ll be available in the full game. However, it’s still unknown that those unique items will end up being.
The pre-release beta will be made available on the PlayStation 4 on May 8, which is seven days prior to launch. In order to get access to the game’s beta and qualify for what’s being described as “awesome rewards,” players must first pre-order Marvel’s Avengers.
