Bloober Team creative gang has recently shed some fresh light on its upcoming game Cronos: The New Dawn. And the gist is that players have already begun hyping what is essentially this cassette futurism nightmarish nightmare coming this fall for PCs, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
From the official tweet, the new teaser suggested engaging evolving Orphans with a retro-futuristic arsenal, and with this slick new trailer, memories are stirred for all the Dead Space vibes. Like, the good Dead Space. Long before EA did that… Whatever that was. The gamers immediately noticed the resemblance; Behelit-89 commented, “more Dead Space before EA destroyed that franchise.” Wintermute-84 added, “Dead space vibes before it was ruined.” Cringe. Still accurate.
Responses were noted from quite a handful very fast: Some, like Lance, feel entitled now that Cronos and Silent Hill F are set to come out, saying, “This and silent hill f. Man are we spoiled.” Then there are those like Dave, who thought the visuals were simply “unreal,” while Lucas Menegheti summed it up in one word: “C I N E M A.” Could not have said it better.
Not everybody, however, falls in love at first sight. ShadowsCreed, though judging while still in watching-phase, said it “still needs a lot of work” but admitted, “It’s looking good.” Fair enough. Early hype is one thing, polish another, but overrated responses? Positively. MR3D-Dev cheers for “more Sci-Fi games,” while IceTigerZone has placed a hype GIF beside it as if he checks his Steam every five minutes.
Speaking of which—yes, Bloober Team was kind enough to attach a few relevant links. PS5, Xbox, and Epic Games Store pages are live, and now you have players such as Alberto begging for a date: “Please set the date now.” I concur. Meanwhile, Serge343 is already strategizing how to pick up a physical copy, as some things just must touch a shelf.
So, basically, what is Cronos: The New Dawn about? Well, a sci-fi horror experience where you will be faced with these twisted Orphans. (Not the cute kind.) Gun-wielding rivals seem to have been stolen from a ’80s cyberpunk VHS. A copious amount of atmosphere? Bloober has always been a master at it — Observer was about hard-hitting weird tech-noir, whereas Layers of Fear was all about the psyche; now, they’re plunging into deep-space horror-an entry that will be full-on pain, judging from the trailers.
On the other hand, perfect timing. Double so because we have the Dead Space remake still present in our minds and the arrival of the Silent Hill 2 remake drawing near. The horror fans who are currently very well fed; Cronos seems to hit right on that nostalgic but fresh vibe. Cassette futurism aesthetic? Chef’s kiss. Someone just took Alien Isolation, mashed it up with a synthwave album cover, and we’ve been lapping it up.
Bloober Team is up to something special, and it is something for which that is clearly apparent. Now, can it deliver? The wishlists are growing, comparisons are flying, and no one can wait for the Fall release. But do not expect to sleep anytime soon after finishing it. The Orphans are surely going to haunt so much more than just the corridors of the game.
