Chex Quest was originally launched in 1996. The FPS game was an “advertisement game” featuring the Chex brand, which was often seen with other companies during that time. Many companies tried to appeal to the younger generation with cartoon mascots and adapted them into games.

The lead artist on the original game revealed in 2016 that an HD version was in the works. Years went by with only three trailers and no news of the release.

Chex Quest HD has now been scheduled for a release in a few months. The game is being developed by Team Chex Quest HD plus Flight School Studio and published by General Mills, the US food company.

“The Intergalactic Federation of Snacks’ outpost on the remote planet of Bazoik has been overrun by evil cereal-eating creatures from another dimension! These slimy “Flemoids” have taken the citizens of Bazoik captive and it is up to you and the Chex Mix Squadron to free them. Thankfully you have a handy array of “zorching” devices which can send these invaders back to their home dimension so you can succeed in your mission.” states the game’s official summary.

The game will have similarities from the original title. Chex Quest HD has five-levels and is appropriate for all ages. The game is playable in solo or split-screen multiplayer mode. Players in split-screen will need two USB controllers.

Players can choose from one of six unlockable members of the Chex Mix Squadron as they fight to save the galaxy from the evil Flemoids.

The official Steam page states the game is under the “Free to Play” genre and will be free for players today to enjoy the late 90s game. This is unlike the original game that required gamers to buy the cereal to receive the game.

The official launch date isn’t yet available, but fans of Chex products can find them in grocery stores now. For now, the game may only be available on PC. There’s no news of ports to other consoles. Those who wish to follow the development of the game can follow it on Facebook.

Chex Quest HD is scheduled for launch on PC via Steam this Summer.
