Capcom has once again thrown an announcement bomb for fighting game fans and comic lovers alike: The pre-ordered physical version of Capcom Fighting Collection 2 on PS4 or Switch comes with a limited 48-page comic of Capcom vs. SNK packed into the box. That’s right-a full-fledged comic.
In case you’ve forgotten, the Capcom Fighting Collection is an arcade brawler tour down memory lane, with fine print stipulating that it must also earn a collector’s favor. The comic is almost a throwback to the Capcom vs. SNK name, fostered back then when poor gamers spent hours mashing buttons for one more shot at having the last laugh against their friends. And since it is limited to physical orders, the digital-only will just have to grin and bear it.
No further details about which retailers will offer the promo have surfaced, but Capcom’s tweet conveniently provides a link to check availability. Since Capcom’s products aren’t the easiest things to find, this could be one of those “rush to pre-order or suffer for your sins” situations.
Let’s talk about why this could be such a big deal. The Capcom vs. SNK match-up was a fantasy: Street Fighter icons squaring off against King of Fighters legends. The comic resurrection was a huge point for any retro enthusiast. Game copies and goodies become one less and less blurred, making this one a postcard to that old-school crowd.
It’s curious that the tweet itself hasn’t generated any replies. One would expect that fighting game fans would be losing their minds to type some sort of reply. Perhaps all are too busy training combos to type.
Maybe it just dropped and the hype train hasn’t left the station yet. Either way, the kind of bonus that would make even the most casual of players reconsider double dipping.
So if you are a fighting game, comic book, or just a cool collectible fan, keep an eye on those pre-orders! This may just be worse than getting an unexpected Shoryuken right to the face!
And oh hell, Capcom-if you’ve got ears around-please, can we have a re-release of the actual Capcom vs SNK games? Just throwing that out. Fans will just explode.
The comic-packed edition is this and the next best thing. Time to dust off those fight sticks and prepare for some throwback fun-both on-screen and in print.
