Getting down to not teasing, Goosebumps all the way from there on, followed by full smashing of the shut-the-fridge-door kind of announcement, sending waves throughout the gaming ocean. All right, so from now on, maybe nobody can break this silence but on that particular date and time-no one at Bungie ever keeps suspense within.

Marathon: This game more or less is Bungie’s comeback to sci-fi games, a reimagining of the FPS glory from the early ’90s that just about set the stage for Halo. But not merely for nostalgia, these rumors say full extraction shooter, throwing together PvP and PvE mechanics in ways that may end up being genius or a great fat mess. Guess we’ll know for sure next weekend.

Weird to not see any responses on the tweet? Usually, Bungie announcements are bombarded with hype, skepticism, or at least some memes. Maybe they are still processing, or perhaps they have divided the membership between “This could be awesome” and “Why is it not Destiny 3?” Whatever the reason, that silence is a little unnerving.

What is insane is how little we know-actually, nothing-trailers or screens-just the date and promise. Bungie’s keeping this super close to their chest, which either means they have something incredible or last-ditch polishing is frantic. Based on Bungie’s history, we’re going to lean toward the former, but, hey, Дestiny 2 was one really chaotic launch so…who knows.

One thing for sure is that next Saturday will be the game’s iambic pentameter. If it is a wow moment for the gameplay in any way, then Marathon will be the next big thing in competitive shooters. If it fails to deliver, well, at least we have the original trilogy.

So mark your calendars, set your alarms, and pray to whatever gaming gods one believes in that Bungie will not pull a “20 minutes of CGI and no actual gameplay” on us. After being quiet for so many years, we certainly deserve more than mere vibes.
