Bungie is forever hyping Destiny 2. Announcing “The Edge of Fate” and the whispers about “the upcoming year of Destiny 2” have put every possible interpretation for worthy guards into hysteria.

They are classic Bungie; a little too under wraps, and they throw a lot of mystery out there: three colored heart emojis (purple, red, black) that linked to-whatever, probably teaser sites, knowing Bungie-another image seemingly distorted architect pyramid ship or perhaps some new darkness architecture.

So, what really is “The Edge of Fate”? The community has come up with its best guesses:

– The codename for the next big Destiny 2 expansion after The Final Shape, which ironically, was supposed to be the end of this whole saga?

– Some kind of mid-year content drop to keep the story going between now and TFS.

– A surprise season that launches ahead of schedule.

– Or Bungie trolling us yet again with another ARG requiring us to scan QR codes at random time zones.

Interesting to note how this timing falls outside their usual summer showcase reveal window so as to attempt to seize the entirety of summer with their own announcements? Or will this be a post-acquisition move from Sony to steer Destiny hype momentum?

That image? That image she works: making sure to look keenly; a new enemy, maybe, or a new location could be unveiling here with those jagged darkness spikes we’ve seen before-but arranged in a manner inconsistent with any pyramid architecture we’ve ever seen or a black-and-red color scheme coupled with lore nerds digging into ancient Books of Sorrow entries about the Deep.

What about the links? Purple seems to funnel you to Bungie.net (Standard stuff, no sho?), red to the Destiny 2 YouTube channel (obviously so), but black? Oh, the mystery. Could be the new site, could be nothing, could be the opening act of yet another insane rabbit hole puzzle from Bungie. After the whole Corridors of Time business, would not rule it out.

There are speculations galore popping out in the community. Others say it’s linked to leaked whispers of last year’s 2.0 horde mode. Some are setting their bets on a dungeon drop happening soon. Of course, there will be that faction who will swear that this will be when Bungie finally announces Destiny 3 (it’s not).

Whatever it might be, we aren’t too far from it. So set your alarms for the next day, 9 AM PT, and pray to the Traveler that your wifi doesn’t get chunked under the weight of the impending Twitch viewer crush. Just, uh… maybe don’t get your hopes up for that SRL return everybody keeps begging for.

Well, on this one, Bungie has kept thing tightly closed: no leaks, no datamines; just the cryptic tweet and plenty of questions looming. Whether it’s the next diesel chapter of Light and Darkness, or some seriously insane curveball, one thing is for sure: the Tower is going to be shook tomorrow.

If we’re lucky? Maybe they’ll finally explain what was up with that fish statue.
