Sony and Gearbox felt it was high time to present an extended hour of Borderlands 4′ State of Play. They have ridden the hype bombs into oblivion. Nearly 20 minutes of everything concerning weapons, abilities, missions and surely much much more explosions. Award yourself a mark on the calendar for April 30th at 2 PM PST/5 PM EST/11 PM CEST because this is definitely not a standard trailer. Game on for an unfiltered glimpse.
So what is special about this? Since the back alley whispers, fans of the series had been gnawing on their nails. Over-the-top gunplay, ridiculous humor, loot, and an overload of loot. From the trailers previously broadcasted, one expects a slight compromise in the sneaks but a whole lot of pain. New weapons? Check. New abilities to turn your head? Of course. Missions that are sure to make you smile one moment and sweat the next? Obviously. Mission.
Borderlands 4 was making itself scarce: no massive public showing, no reveal, really, until now. A nice venerable spot in State of Play means something *big* is cooking at Gearbox. More Vault Hunters, perhaps? New brazen art style? And- just, please, lots of Claptrap. Whatever it is, 20 minutes is a *looong* time for a gaming showcase. Most games get a quick 2-minute trailer announcing the release date… Borderlands 4?Nah. We’re taking over.
Just the right amount of timing! The 30th of April approaches fast, so one would suspect Gearbox hastened the ticket to avoid forcing a wait of months between announcement and broadcast. Either implies a confidence hook, or it indicates some soon-to-be-disclosed release news. Would this be late 2024 concepts? Consciousness of early 2025? Rumors have been flying around for a while, less like dust, more like nothing solid. Very much a good time for State of Play to talk about it.
Regarding that link from the tweet, definite full details are said to be included in Sony’s official blog article, but for sure, they will coddle us from the finest bits in the stream. But from there, anything clouds have a reason to watch. Then for the media attachment? A hype image or a clip for a heartbeat rise- the Gearbox way: a carrot dangler before slamming us with the farm.
Whoever skipped the class on borderlands: a short walk-through. What their motto is: co-op shooting coolness blasting at all absurdly named cannon fodders, collecting a gazillion of guns, and, with furious attitude spitting great one-liners that even the greatest of conquering stand-up barons would be put to shame. The last principal entry, Borderlands 3, came out and saw a hit, albeit with some initial rough patches. The Tiny Tina spin-off truly testified to the franchise being more than just some idea with legs to stand upon. Borderlands 4? This one has got to fire things up.
So what is there at play? Just set a reminder for yourself, whip some snacks, and brace yourself for chaos. This State of Play seems to be that spring event for shooter fans, for the old-timers and even for the new curious. A big “if” thrown in there: If Gearbox nails it. Let us place your 2024 gaming list on pause.
Finally- just look for surprises. Easter eggs, secret bosses . . . Borderlands really loves strange stuff. The odds are very slim a celebrity cameo will not be included, or at least an out-there crossover tease. They put *Face McShooty* in the game; expect that kind of madness.
April 30. Show up, or… well, you know.
