There has been a great deal of chatter about the Black Myth Wukong delayed Xbox release, with the gamers wondering whether Sony managed to get a time exclusivity from the game during that one-year gap between its launch on PS5 and Xbox. But, the China-based gaming consultant Daniel Camilo (@DanielOlimac) dismisses this as mere coincidence.
He, in a tweet, completely rejected any rumors of Sony gaining timed exclusivity for this much-awaited action RPG. “Game Science has been announcing big things August 20 since 2020. I know it has nothing to do with an exclusive agreement with Sony,” he said. “The date of August 20, 2024 was not random. It is a special date for the studio and they keep using it.”
Then still the crowd remains uninterested with the rumors.
This tweet fueled a heated debate among players, with some propositions viewed as inadequate explanations. One Twitter user, @OPGODA_, put forth the view that Game Science had never outright denied exclusivity when queried by journalists; “All they had to do was make a statement saying the game wasn’t exclusive, but they didn’t,” they said. Others, like @jnightx, said that the studio “shouldn’t have humored baseless rumors made by whiny gamers.”
And then the specification for Xbox Series S. A few believe technical issues on Microsoft’s less powerful console hold the release back, but Camilo said Microsoft themselves had cleared Series S of being an issue. This, however, did not silence people like @yuttaibae questioning how a game that runs flawlessly on Steam Deck cannot even cope with Series S: “All these devs whining gonna look like clowns when GTA6 releases.”
Before the talk turned to Sony marketing (or a lack thereof), the only time PlayStation has actively supported a game was Stellar Blade; the release on PS5 for Black Myth Wukong got almost zero attention. “If there was an exclusivity deal, PS would’ve marketed the shit out of the game,” @jnightx said.
At this point, does it even matter? “It’s here now, it’s a good game, get over yourself people. FOMO is stupid,” said @DBattoru.
Another coincidence or a big-brother move-in-business-one thing can be said with certainty, the Xbox version of Black Myth Wukong is definitely going to come with not much waiting time. August 20, 2024, will finally be the date when the Xbox fans will basically hold the mythical adventure in their hands. Debate on, however, with the ship afloat in every sense.
And hey, if you’re still not convinced, remember: Sometimes, a date is just a date. Or is it?
