Ubisoft poured a call to action upon owners of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, urging them to upload their best photo mode images, along with the hashtag #ACPhotoMode. The tweet promised to retweet best of entries, and the community certainly responded with some majestic screenshots, coupled with good-humored grumbling.
The official Assassin’s Creed Twitter feed stated the following: “With such an immense open world and unexpected discoveries and wonders waiting around every corner, getting distracted is easy. Share your finest #ACPhotoMode shots with us, and we’ll retweet a few of our favorites.” They remembered to attach an almost-classical painting in-game screenshot, so to speak, to really get off their heads talking about the gorgeousness of the game.
The discussion was, however, followed by the reply tweet being flooded with exquisite virtual photography and comments Hell worthy from recent decisions made by Ubisoft. Classic gamer duality.
Now, those snapshots: Nixon (@iam_Nemesis_SN) and Luis (@Wiso_BJ) blessed us with Renaissance-worthy shots. In contrast, Thomas Dean (@ThomasD74325807) said that in the series, “photo mode is the only one where every picture is wall-worthy,” and lacerated Ubisoft for having “made something so simple feel exceptional.” Ricky 117 (@RiteshKMondal) posted a picture of an epic sunset after finishing the main story, proclaiming that he was ready for another playthrough because “the world is beautiful.”
And then… oh, the complaints came in faster than half of us could jump off a haystack. Some were begging Ubisoft to fix the photo mode. André Dias (@HyCe) plainly asked: “When can we finally change time of day during photo mode?”; Tamrielan (@Tamrielan) seconded that, begging: “Can we get the updated photo mode before I finish the game, please?” Oof.
There’s then that group that’s just done with it. Dante (@Dante72572283) admitted he didn’t even finish Shadows “because it’s just too big and too much rinse and repeat,” and told Ubisoft to “make the next one smaller.” ColmCreed (@DrogoG97) somewhat described the post-game content as “shitty” and demanded Ubisoft “do better.” Those posts are beginning to get darker though, considering Uzermad (@Uzermad) was straight-up asking if the social media manager is “losing your job” since these Feelings™ are making him “kinda depress[ing].” Yikes.
From here grew wild rumpus about the dwarfing success (or lack thereof) of the game. VulpOutlaw (@VulpOutlaw) clapping back at healthy player count claims: Ubisoft falsely counts through giving free weekends and subs. Meanwhile, Norrin (@NorrinTheRad) went off on the falling stock price of Ubisoft in a response involving AI tools—completely sidetracked but hilarious.
Amidst all the hullabaloo, a single fact remains: Players are passionate about Assassin’s Creed Shadows either lovingly constructing perfect screenshots or grumbling about absent features. Ubisoft’s photo mode challenge shone a light on godly visuals and the fray in the community’s feelings on its direction. Now to see if anybody in Ubisoft ever mentions those fan pics or if they just pretend the roasting never happened.
