Word on the street, Apex Legends players are running to the novelty Rank Ladder; however, that does not go with every player. Respawn’s official Twitter account had encouraged people to play ranked from the 7th onward, climb the boards, and vie for rewards, but boy, the replies…
The suggestion was to have cross-play enabled for participation so that matchmaking complaints and “cheaters from all avenues running rampant” could start, with a user summing up the situation nicely, “Yeah, me being Plat 1 getting back to back preds in my lobbies while solo q 💀.” Ouch.
Another string of complaints followed. Several players went on to unironically bemoan having to face Predators ranked as high-lancers whilst stuck in Gold or Platinum lobbies. “Rank doesn’t mean skill though,” @Andrew_Insomnia emphasised, much to the chagrin of @Swytchers, who said that what was absurd was the fact that Pred-level queues were forcing top players to trawl through lower-ranked matches.
And then there is the cheating problem. “All this ladder did was bring out the aim botters and wall hackers en masse,” ranted @justjoddat_ttv, calling on Respawn to use this event to purge the offenders. Others, including @ittzjoh4nn4, described the ranked system as “full of cheaters… no vibes at all just frustrations and nightmares.”
The Rewards, too, got their bashing. “You call BP stars and a trail that will expire rewards?” sneered @29jonn, his supremacy apparently offended by the grind process. On the other hand, @MrTally0002 announced he would skip the Battle Pass this season because “matchmaking is just punishing you the more you play.”
Some gave the mode a harsh dismissal as well. @TTvMtGoat said, “Nah don’t play retarded games that put walking mental illness in it” (ouch) while @Typo_master_ chimed in with a quick, “Nah shits garbage.”
But hey, not everyone was feeling sours. A few lads like @Jayyoshi1 joked about just skipping ranked: “Thank u for Arenas🤣😂 i don’t play Ranked lol.” On the positive side, @federalwindow pleaded that Respawn implement more rotating modes to keep things spicy.
So where does that leave us? Ranked is here, prizes await you, but the player base is divided. Cheaters, iffy matchmaking, and dubious incentives place Respawn in dire need of addressing bigger issues.
If jump the gun they did for now, full squads are recommended—and plenty of patience. Or then again, just play Arenas. The choice is yours.
