The Apex Legends Bocek Blast Closes Soon, with Respawn reminding everyone to get those clips in by June 8 for the last shot at in-game rewards. Yet the replies tell a totally different story, mainly featuring town criers narrating tales of disappointments, bugs, and matchmaking nightmares.
One must explain at the outset just how great the event is. The Bocek Blast is the Community Spotlight wherein people submit their best bow clips for rewards. Cool idea, right? By the way, the Bocek bow is embroiled in a bit of controversy right now, with a segment of the community calling nonstop explosive arrows “braindead.” “I’m personally sick and goddamn tired of getting blasted by the Bocek’s explosive arrows,” one disdainful reply goes. Oof.
But just that is the very beginning. The replies suggest an Apex-unhappy community put in front of them now. Matchmaking is the main pain, with different players complaining about impossible lobby assignments. “Me level 400+, my teammates level 11, level 23,” lamented one. Another complaint is about gold/plat lobbies where “3 stacking pred virgins” appear so often that someone joked about doing an “SBMM Blast” event instead (that’s skill-based matchmaking for those who don’t know).
Then come the technical problems. From audio not working (classic Apex) to crashing every five minutes, one player shares a clip of the bug he has been having since 2022 and still hasn’t been fixed for his inconvenience. From there, it’s the servers being put through the wringer with complaints about shots not registering and high ping causing absurd time-to-kill.
The Arenas are currently being called out by a few fellow players. One of the fellow players asks if ranked Arenas will be returning; meanwhile, the other simply states, “Arenas is broken….” with a clip that shows said broken gameplay.
Then comes Legend balance. Players complain about Ash, Ballistic, and Alter because their powers have no counterplay or are simply outright broken. “Out of 27 Legends, 3 are usable,” one displeased member commented. Others are asking for buffs to underused Legends like Newcastle.
And further, we come to… well, let’s say “entertaining” comments about cosmetics. Who would have thought that apart from the cosmetics themselves, the very style choice could attract such vehement complaints? One player hated the alt for Lifeline. The player then went full scream-rant: “Stop giving Lifeline baggy pants!! IM TIRED OF THE LIFELINE DISRESPECT.” The other one considered the Bangalore heirloom recolor “defective.”
The replies paint the picture of a game that is fun in its core but heavily hampered with issues driving would-be players away. “Enjoyed Apex after missing a few seasons, only to now be thrown into lobbies with predators and players smurfing/cheating,” lamented one player. “It was fun while it lasted, time to go back to RPG games or racing.”
The Community team certainly has a hard time ahead of them at Respawn. Mixed in are matchmaking woes, technical problems, balance issues, and general frustration with the direction the game is taking, turning the announcement for the Bocek Blast event into an untimely annoyances forum. The actual event takes a backseat to the much bigger conversation about the current state of Apex at this point.
Will Respawn address these concerns? Some players are quite skeptical. “They don’t care,” said one reply quite baldly. Some are still hopeful, though, throwing every ounce of their feedback into some semblance of hope for change. Till then, it’s a countdown for players to get those Bocek clips in by June 8, factors allowing; the question is: can they stomach the game till then long enough to choke up some worthy clips amidst the issues?
