Nintendo dropped a huge nostalgic bomb by putting the entire Ocarina of Time 3D soundtrack on the Nintendo Music app. Some are feeling the ambient Hyrule tunes, whereas others are side-eyeing Nintendo for what seems like an underwhelming effort.

The official Twitter account of Nintendo of America announced the update with a streaming link for the music that consisted of updated 3DS remake versions of classics like the iconic “Song of Storms” and the intense “Ganondorf Battle Theme”; the kind of music that really set the atmosphere. But the original N64 soundtrack was already on the app. So why add the 3D one? That’s when the drama starts.

Gamers such as @PhanTum926 state that the final battle theme from the 3D version sounds better, especially when the drums aren’t so choppy. But then, the user uttered some hard-hitting words: “Don’t even bother listening to this entire soundtrack- the original is already there months ago.” Ouch! And then the contrary opinion came out, with BeegYosh27 calling it a “miss this week” and recommending Majora’s Mask instead.

Then there’s the conspiracy faction. NLegris1026 tweeted, “They must be hinting at a remaster, I just know it!,” while other people jibed about Nintendo trolling them. Hachinite sarcastically applauded Nintendo for “overworking to give us quality content” by basically re-releasing a remake soundtrack since the original was already there.

Or some of these people just aren’t mad. Some Zelda devotees are just glad that now they have a new alternative to listen to this epic game score. BuiwareU, otherwise known as Steven the Bui, noted a difference in the 3DS version’s textures, also mentioning an extra track that went by the name of “Credits 2” that wasn’t found in the N64 original. So this is really a win for completionists.

Naturally, more soundtracks are being called for thanks to the gates opened by this update. Gamers are on their knees begging for Kid Icarus Uprising (“That game slaps!”), Xenoblade (“It’s been too long”), and then some totally obscure requests of F-Zero and Kirby tunes. One user, CreativeSteve69, outright demanded, “Plz add more pikmin jams.”

Now…here begins the Direct drama. No Nintendo tweet ever manages to stake any claim without loud clamoring for a Direct. astralWildcat responded with prayer-hands emoji: “We need a direct 😔🙏🏻,” and Nick (aspyman998) could not help but scream: “Where’s the Direct Nintendo Reeeeeeee!!!!!”

So yeah, Nintendo gave us Ocarina of Time 3D music. But was this truly so necessary? Depends who you ask. Some gamers are grooving, some are eye-rolling, and a very select few are convinced this is some sort of subtle hint towards a bigger scheme. Meanwhile, others are still there, waiting for that imagined Nintendo Direct drop.

What now? It’s up to everyone’s imagination. Majora Mask? Maybe a little Kid Icarus? Or just watch them continue with suspending disbelief; it’s almost their métier.
