A hyped tweet for its just announced Digital Deluxe Edition of an upcoming game; oh well, judging from the mixed reactions and skateboarding-themed emojis, it’s a toss-up between hype and frustration.
In full story mode, Xbox said, “Pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition so you don’t have to wait to jump into the game.” There was some talk about skateboards and rock (🤘🛹), which did point towards an extreme sports-like sound, so the actual name of the game is… never mentioned. Early access should come with the pre-order link. But that answer? Man, it’s a divided bunch: cynical and downright angry responses.
Let the hype train get rolling. Come to think of it, the hype train is riding full steam with the likes of @iCrazyTeddy and @pixelluma dropping in with comments like “Let’s goooo 🛹” and “Can’t wait to shred the gnar!” The little ones started to drop in, starting with @MikeHTX94, saying, “I can’t wait.” Then @adivraza joined in with a “Sounds like a blast, Xbox!” So, some folk appear to be hyped.
Now, enter the backlash. @1ofScottsTots (also known as Prison Mike, lol) slams Xbox with some cold, hard truths: “So pay extra to play the day of release, or pay normal amount to play late.” Ouch. @PaperAeroplane posted a harsher retort: “It’s not early access. It’s day 1 access. If you don’t pay extra, you get the game in late access.” So they’re in essence calling out this recently very popular “pay more to play sooner” model.
Then the mayhem happened. @TrollOficer (yeah, actually) sneered, “How many people were laid off in the making of this game?” Brutal. @Dog_Deterrent79 gave off eleventh level tech support vibes and demanded, “Why is Xbox so prone to crashing, freezing, and glitches?” Meanwhile, @getthatlugiatcg derailed the entire chat by pleading for Modern Warfare 2 third-person mode…really?
The few that sought to contribute, like @NayaPro95, might just be playing already (lucky ones), and then there’s ericnofsinger trying to calm things down by asking Xbox what features they’re most looking forward to. In all honesty, though, most of the comments were either burn talk or hype talk-burn or hype; not really much in between.
The main analysis? Digital Deluxe Edition is stirring up some drama for Xbox. Some gamers are excited to shell out some extra cash to get early access, while others feel that it’s yet another greedy cash grab in an industry that is already squeezing so much out of the players. And hey, if this really is a skating game, the memes alone will be worth the drama.
So what now? If paying a somewhat premium price to get in early sounds good to you, get in now. If not…well, then you’ll be on hold like all of us peasants. Either way, this one will definitely blow up, and I can assure you that you won’t be able to think straight during the actual game launch. Hold on tight, gamers; bumps ahead.
