Pull up a chair, gamers, for Xbox has some spicy and very juicy morsels to say about its plans for Gamescom, and might I say things are about to get a little crazy. The official Xbox Twitter account said: More than 20 playable demos are going to be on display, including the most-wanted demo of all: Hollow Knight: Silksong. Anyone who listened to my voice on the night of the announcement or within days afterward will now remember me saying that something that had never been spoken about before is in fact out there-it is finally real: Silksong is going to be played publicly for the first time.
To spice things up further, the event will mark the very public unveiling of the ROG Xbox Ally, augmented with first-ever hands-on time. Remember that little thing that seemed to be floating around in rumor-land like a ghost in a haunted mansion? Okay. It really does exist, and might just let you put your hands on it. In the meanwhile, you should take a front-row seat and watch the live broadcast starting August 20 and 21 from the show floor, just in case the Germany trip doesn’t work out (I know how that feels).
Now, go through the responses, because the Internet never fails to entertain. The tweet stirred comments that plunged into the full-blown console wars, engaging in loud polemic discourse concerning Xbox exclusives, GamePass, and accusing PlayStation fans of sourness (their words, not mine). Another guy, CHRISTOPHER BIDDLE, then went full defense mode with last-minute releases, saying that Xbox had actually been dumping out more games lately than PlayStation. Burak Coskun bounced back with the good old retort: “Xbox can’t make good exclusives.” All the same old stuff, really, but hey, passionate indeed.
Then… random grenade is lobbed in: “psychonauts” with no context accompanying it. Just vibes.
Back to the news, though. Hollow Knight: Silksong has been out of sight for so long that it seems like an eternity away, but finally, you are going to have the opportunity to play it. The team at Team Cherry has been preparing for this while judging by the original Hollow Knight, Silksong will strike as a heart-stopping wonder. It being in the Xbox line-up at Gamescom is very brightly shining indeed, especially when Microsoft is hell-bent on yelling about ‘play anywhere’ at the top of its lungs lately.
Details about ROG Xbox Ally are sketchy at best, and just the same, the prospect of an Xbox-branded handheld continues to keep the gaming world buzzing with excitement. Will it dare to step into the ring with the Steam Deck? Will it GamePass hard? Will it even exist? More will be revealed soon.
So get your calendars marked; set a few alarms, maybe; and get those snacks stocked! This Gamescom event is looking to be a huge highlight of the summer! And those lucky bastards in the venue, well… everyone’s jealousy is reciprocated! A little housekeeping: Don’t forget to shower.
Oh, and a shout-out before we lose track: Maurice Veschuur threw a link like it was still 2009. Classy move.
In a nutshell, the Gamescom is Xbox’s heat trampoline, so whether you are Team Xbox, Team PlayStation, or just here for the memes, there should be an appealing attraction for each one of us. But for now, ladies and gentlemen, if I’ll be excused, I need to get some steam out of my system by screaming into a pillow about Silksong.
