Blizzard is making a significant update to the Echoes of Ny’alotha currency system in World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth. The Echoes of Ny’alotha system is part of the addition of account-wide essences that Blizzard recently made, an addition that was among one of the most highly-demanded features from the player base.
With the system, players are able to purchase essences that they’ve already unlocked on one character for others. Essentially, this makes it so that you can earn essences on your alts much, much easier than before without having to grind out a huge amount of now-obsolete content you’ve already pushed through once before. Doing different activities earn you Echoes of Ny’alotha instead, a currency that you can use to purchase the essences from M.O.T.H.E.R. instead of having to grind them out.
Blizzard’s goal in this update is to make essences more easily available to characters whose specializations have them in different roles, which is great for players that might casually play in one role but raid in another. It’s especially helpful for the multispec classes out there like druids that need a different loadout for all three different specs.
“With this change we’ve lifted the restrictions on acquiring role-specific Azerite Essences from M.O.T.H.E.R.. Now, the various ways that you obtain Rank 3 tanking, healing, or damage-specific essences are now grouped together,” Blizzard writes in their announcement. “If you’ve earned any of the three essences in these groups, all three of the essences will be unlocked for purchase from M.O.T.H.E.R. with Echoes of Ny’alotha.”
The following five groupings are the ones that Blizzard lists out for the change:
- Spark of Inspiration, Unwavering Ward, Strength of the Warden (obtained from Horrific Visions)
- Touch of the Everlasting, Spirit of Preservation, breath of the Dying (obtained from reputation with Rajani)
- Blood of the Enemy, Artifice of Time, Sphere of Suppression (obtained from Battlegrounds)
- Condensed Life Force, Vitality Conduit, Azeroth’s Undying Gift (obtained from raiding in The Eternal Palace)
- Essence of the Focusing Iris, Life-Binder’s Invocation, Anima of Life and Death (obtained from Mythic Keystone Dungeons).
It’s a fantastic change to see from Blizzard, and it’ll provide a great amount of flexibility and variety for players to utilize. Up until recently, players were more or less shoehorned into a single endgame character, as the amount of now-obsolete content that had to be grinded through to reach the third rank of essences was incredibly high. With these changes, Blizzard is helping to make sure that players are able to enjoy the last few months of the Battle for Azeroth expansion as Shadowlands approaches.
