Death Stranding, which is set to be released for the PlayStation 4 on November 8, is going to be Hideo Kojima’s first game since leaving Konami back in 2015. Of course, his most recent release was Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and while the critics loved it, most fans of the franchise were displeased with Konami, as they reportedly pushed Kojima to release the game before it was finished.
It’s been a little over three years since Death Stranding was first revealed, and it’s probably realistic to think that it’s been in development ever since the Konami/Kojima split. So, it’ll be interesting to see what the longtime Metal Gear Solid developer can do on the current generation now that he’s been given an adequate amount of time to complete his game.
According to Troy Baker, who plays an antagonist named Higgs, Hideo Kojima is looking to make a statement with Death Stranding, as he’s attempting to help move the gaming industry forward.
“It’ll definitely be a statement,” Baker said during an interview with Push Sqaure. “If you know anything about Kojima, he doesn’t make ‘games’. He’s an amazing world builder. He’s trying to move the medium forward, not just trying to move copies.”
While Kojima hasn’t been shy about releasing new trailers and screenshots in the months leading up to Death Stranding’s release, there still isn’t a ton of information regarding the game’s main storyline. But, because Hideo Kojima’s name is attached to it, the game should move a ton of copies when it hits the PlayStation 4 this coming November.
Death Stranding will, much like Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, use the Fox Engine. So, some gameplay elements will be similar to MGSV. But, because it’s Kojima developing it, the game will likely stand set itself apart from the Metal Gear Solid series, even if its gameplay is similar to Kojima’s 2015 release.
Aside from The Last of Us Part II, which still doesn’t have a release date attached to it, Death Stranding is probably the most anticipated upcoming PlayStation exclusive. Also, it’s likely going to get a lot of mainstream attention, as it has a pretty star-studded cast.
As previously mentioned, Death Stranding is currently scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 4 on November 8, so Kojima will likely to continue to tease its release in the coming weeks and months. Whether or not the upcoming trailers will explain the game’s main narrative is obviously to be determined.
