Just in case you haven’t already heard, the alpha for the Gunfight mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PlayStation 4, and it’s completely free-to-play, meaning that you don’t need a PS Plus subscription to join in on the action.
The 2v2 Gunfight alpha has already received various updates since it was released on Thursday night, and Infinity Ward will continue to update the game throughout the weekend, as they’ll be fixing bugs, adjusting weapon damage, and adding new maps to the rotation.
On Saturday, Infinity Ward updated the 2v2 alpha, and the details of the update are listed below.
- Docks, which is a new 2v2 map, has been added to the rotation.
- Fixes to connection issues, which players were experiencing while trying to access the Docks map.
- Damage increased for the M19 pistol at longer ranges, now is a minimum 5-shot kill instead of 6.
- Improved handling of idle players: if players don’t touch their controller within two minutes of a match ending, they’ll automatically be removed from the matchmaking process.
- Improved matchmaking for solo microphone users, as you’re now much more likely to find a teammate who is also using a mic.
Infinity Ward showed a quick preview of the newly added Docks map, which can be seen below.

It was also revealed that another map will be added to the rotation before the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare alpha expires, which will be called Stack. As of right now, the developers haven’t revealed when the map will be added to the Gunfight rotation, but it’ll likely be coming very soon.
There is an additional game mode variant that is going to make its way to the CoD: MW 2v2 Gunfight alpha which will have players begin the match with nothing but a pistol, and they’ll have to scramble to find additional weapons and resources during the match.
So far, all the reviews for the Call of Duty alpha have been relatively positive, as this year’s game looks like it’s going to be the most successful CoD title in recent memory. On top of that, the game will be getting a ton of content added after it hits consoles and PC this coming October, with one piece of content potentially being a Battle Royale mode.
For now, though, players will have to enjoy the 2v2 Gunfight alpha, which will be available on PlayStation 4 for the rest of the weekend.
