Isn’t it funny that since Sony and Microsoft unveiled the system specifications for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 and their launch date, both consoles have been in a constant battle for which is better?

On the outset, at least, the better console in this particular area was quite evident. For instance, Xbox Series X has dual TFLOPS (teraflops) more than its opponent—PS5— because of the 52 Compute Units that work against PlayStation 5’s 36.

Also, the specifications listed have a faster I/O for the PS5 (9 GB/s vs. 4.8), but common sense shows that a compute power is a better alternative.

Since then, there have been different opinions on this matter. Besides, the most recent and significant example was Epic’s groundbreaking Unreal Engine 5 tech demo. This demo ran on PlayStation 5, and it’s for the same reason the engine’s SSD and I/O design is much better than every option now, even for PC, according to Tim Sweeny’s statement.

Also, Andrea Pessino, Ready at Dawn CTO, stated that he expected PS5 to be soon regarded as one of the most thorough consoles in history for its architecture.

Moreover, revered VentureBeat game journalist Jeff Grubb did share on twitter that some third-party developers in the know are ‘exaggerating’ over the PS5 architecture.

He added, saying that he hasn’t seen the same level of admiration for Microsoft’s Xbox Series X as, yet, nothing wrong was heard.

This has been pointed out before by Jason Schreier, the authentic editor who was formerly at Kotaku but now at Bloomberg. This was pointed after the specifications of the next-gen system were revealed.

Sony has dropped the ball. There’s going to be like weeks and weeks, if not months and months, especially with Corona disrupting everything, of people just talking about how the Xbox Series X is the most powerful console and it’s beating the PS5 in every single way. Meanwhile, I’m getting texts and DMs, even today as this was going on, from developers being like ‘This is such a shame, the PS5 is so superior in all these other ways that they’re not able to message right now or can’t talk about right now’. I heard from at least three different people in the past couple of hours since the Cerny talk being like ‘The PS5 is actually like the more superior piece of hardware in a lot of different ways despite what you see in these paper spec sheets’.

Not to worry, soon we would get a glimpse of what the PlayStation 5 is capable of, given that the showcase event which was scheduled for June 4th has now been delayed due to the current protest going on as a means to allow more important voices to be heard.
