Sometimes, the gaming community sends a very clear message to developers with how they spend their money, whether it be mass-refunding No Man’s Sky or shooting significantly higher than the Kickstarter asked them to. This time, we’re dealing with the latter.
We wrote about The Wonderful 101: Remastered‘s Kickstarter back in February a little more than a month ago, discussing how heavily they smashed through their seemingly-small original goal. Asking for $50,000, the Kickstarter reached just below $1,000,000 within a matter of hours.
It seems that funding the Kickstarter with more than 20x the asked-for funds wasn’t enough, though. As the Kickstarter comes to a close, the funding campaign ends with around $2,200,000 in funding – around 44x more than the team was asking for!
There are only two stretch goals that weren’t reached with this incredible amount of funding. At $2.25 million, the team would’ve worked to put in Orchestral Recordings of two of the songs on the soundtrack. If they reached $2.5 million, they would’ve worked to add more language compatibilities. Unfortunately, these ones weren’t hit, but it’s likely the team never expected them to be given.
But what about the ones that were hit? By the time the fundraiser hit $1 million, we already had unlocked the first four goals. The game will now be coming to Nintendo Switch, Steam, and PS4. There also will be a Time Attack mode for anyone who wants to challenge themselves, as well as a “Luka’s First Mission” 2D side-scrolling adventure, “Luka’s Second Mission” to continue that adventure, and a Remix Soundtrack featuring an unnamed musical guest.
“We at PlatinumGames want to express our heartfelt appreciation for all the warm wishes and support for our Kickstarter for The Wonderful 101: Remastered!” the team writes on Twitter. “We couldn’t have done it without all of you!”
It’s always fantastic to see the gaming community coming together to help with the revival of a title. There’s a great amount of passion behind the game both from the fanbase and the developers, and it’s likely that this will truly show in the game when it comes out.
It is interesting to note that the PS4 version was a stretch goal, though. By the time the title releases, it’s likely that the next generation will already be upon us. One might wonder whether they intend to switch that up and bring it to next-gen consoles instead, or if they’ll keep it to PS4 as they stated? Either way, we’ll all be keeping a close eye on the development as the months move on.
