Many gaming companies today are putting more effort into virtual reality. It’s amazing to see the recent resurgence of VR. It first appeared back in the 80s and 90s, but was held back in terms of technology. Now, though, companies finally have the capability to take full advantage of this innovative way of gaming.
One company that’s been making real headway in the VR sector is Oculus. They’ve made so many great headsets, featuring powerful specs and user-friendly designs. Their upcoming Oculus Rift S seems to be advancing VR even more. Some details about this innovative VR headset were recently provided by Oculus during the recent GDC 2019 press conference event.
What is most intriguing is the addition of built-in sensors. This will allow for inside-out tracking, essentially saving you from having to set up external sensors when using the Rift S. The setup for this new headset thus will be more user-friendly, which could possibly attract a whole new audience to the VR market.
The Oculus Rift S will also receive an upgrade in graphics. The resolution will be 2560 x 1440 on an LCD display. These specs should create even better VR experiences for gamers. Imagine how much more realistic VR settings will be with this recent graphics enhancement. It’s exciting to think about all of the possibilities.
The advancements don’t just stop with the visuals and sensor design either. Apparently, Oculus spent a lot of time refining their head strap. The Rift S will now feature a head strap that’s very similar to what the PlayStation VR offers. It has a ring-like design, which should fit comfortably on the back of the head and neck. There will also be a seamless dial in the back that can easily be adjusted for the perfect fit.
It’s nice to see Oculus make these types of improvements. They’ve always put out a good product, but they’re not resting on their laurels. This type of passion will only make VR gaming that much better in the future.
In terms of game compatibility, the Oculus Rift S will support all of the same titles that the first Rift supported. As far as the Oculus Rift S’ price point, it will be $400. That may seem a little pricey to some gamers, but given the built-in sensors and improved graphics, $400 actually isn’t that bad of a deal. It’s certainly worth it if you’re a fan of VR gaming.
