The cult role-playing game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic reboot has been put on hold by Aspyr Media. Jason Schreier, a journalist for Bloomberg, reported this using sources.

Aspyr Media has reportedly put the development of Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic on indefinite hold, according to a story from Bloomberg released Friday night July 26.

According to Bloomberg, early this month, Aspyr studio leaders informed their staff that the project had been put on hold while they searched for “other contracts and development prospects.”

Aspyr reportedly sacked the remake’s art director and design director in addition to the prolonged delay.

The report also claimed that the development cycle for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was unsustainable. An unnamed source familiar with the project told Bloomberg that the game’s demo for Lucasfilm and Sony had taken up too much time and money. As a result, some developers predicted that 2025 would be a more reasonable release date than Aspyr’s 2022 projection.

Some Aspyr employees now think Saber Interactive, which has been outsourcing work for the project, could potentially explore those mentioned above. We contacted the company for a response to Bloomberg’s report, and we will update this post with any details and information it may provide.

The company released Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II for the Nintendo Switch in June. Aspyr released a patch in July to fix an issue when the game first launched and prohibited players from finishing it today.

The remake’s official announcement happened in September 2021. The project had been in development for nearly three years at that point. The so-called “vertical slice” of the game was finished by Aspyr Media on June 30, 2022, and it was then shown to collaborators from Sony and Lucasfilm.
