It seems like we’ve waited forever, which is a bit tongue-in-cheek humor for the indie game about being stuck in a galactic time loop.  The title that received a plethora of awards from various publications is finally coming to Steam, although it’s admittedly going to take a while.

The development studio Mobius Digital has finally created a Steam page for the critically acclaimed title, and it’s scheduled to arrive on June 18th, 2020.  Roughly three months from now until everyone gets to discover the charm and storytelling that had critics and streamers alike in awe.

Not that it hasn’t necessarily been available before now; the title enjoyed Epic Games Store exclusivity since its original launch on May 29, 2019.  This means that while the developer got to cash out a sizeable check from Epic, many players simply haven’t had an opportunity (or desire) to explore the title.

The title itself is very much worth the exploration, as well; it hearkens design choices back to the fabled Myst, with atmospheric storytelling and puzzles that will charm players as they explore the universe which is coming to an abrupt end.  In that manner, it’s a bit more like The Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask.

It’s an admittedly bitter exploration as the player knows that the star in the center of the solar system will soon erupt, spelling death for every colorful character that you meet.

It tinges the overall flavor of the title as inherently introspective at moments while players puzzle over the various parts and pieces that are laid in front of their path.  The various pieces end up spelling out a much larger parcel of the overall story, reset only by the inevitable explosion of the star.

The time loop does little to ultimately stymie the overall feeling of melancholy and permanence, as you arise once more at the beginning of the loop just a little bit wiser.

Any more than this outline, and it’ll spoil a wondrous marvel of storytelling, atmosphere, and frankly one of the few modern titles that made me actually feel.

If you’re one of the many that have never experienced this title due to the Epic exclusivity purchase that annoyed the majority of fans of the title, then Outer Wilds is something that you absolutely need to be tracking as it nears the June release date.  While it may feel far away at the moment, some things in life are simply worth waiting for.
