The Last Remnant Remastered is now available for mobile players. The title was previously released on Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 4, and, most recently, the Nintendo Switch in 2019.
The release comes as a surprise, as Square Enix didn’t announce prior plans to port the game onto mobile.
The Last Remnant is an RPG developed and published by Square Enix in November 2008. Though it’s not a big name title like Final Fantasy, gamers enjoyed the unique world Square Enix introduced them to, including brand-new characters.
The official website describes the story: “The world was at peace…or so it seemed. Who was to know such darkness lay in wait? The powers of the Remnants slowly began to change the world’s balance. A rift slowly formed between those who ruled and those who obeyed. This was the dawning of a new era — an era of countless frays that would be brought upon the world by those enslaved by their own lust for power. A thousand years later, the journey of one young man begins.”
The game is a large download, so players will need around 6.1GB of free space to download the title, plus at least 2GB of RAM on Android devices. With the graphics and gameplay, players may need a high-end device to run the game without any significant lag. The language is also set depending on players’ devices, meaning English-speaking users can’t access Japanese audio and vice versa.
The difference between the original game and the remaster isn’t significant. The graphics engine was upgraded from the Unreal Engine 3 to 4. There were also higher-resolution graphics and other features unique from the PC port. They main revolve around small gameplay effects, attack area of effects, and quality of life improvement, such as sprinting.
While the game is available on a variety of platforms already, this is one more way for gamers who don’t have a console device to enjoy the game. It’s unknown if the game will be released on any other platform, either physically or digitally in the future.
The Last Remnant Remastered is now available on iOS and Android devices. The title is the full game and costs $19.99. There are no additional purchases, such as microtransactions. There was not a launch discount or any early download bonuses.
