The Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV is the newest title in Koei Tecmo’s long-running series. Though it’s based on the same series as Dynasty Warriors, RotTK is more strategy based combat. Players won’t be experiencing any musou-action in this series.

Koei Tecmo is frequently updating its website with more information every month with the next major update scheduled for December.

The game will have over 1,000 characters from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series. This is the highest number of officers in the series to date.

RotTK XIV will have plenty of content for those who love the series. According to the official website: “There are a total of seven scenarios, including the Yellow Turban Rebellion (February 184), the chaotic war that signaled the opening of the times, and Chu Shi Biao (February 227), the beginning of Zhuge Liang’s northern campaign. Players will be immersed in the game in these events that weave through the Three Kingdoms story. Strategically select from the wealth of colorful and appealing forces and warlords for each period, and aim to unite China.”

Two collaborations were recently announced for the upcoming RotTK title were announced.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes will be joining the characters of RotTK XIV as officers. LotGH was initially released in 1982 and has expanded into novels, manga, and several animated shows and films. There is still an active fanbase decades after its initial release.

Players can try to unify China with characters from the animated series, such as Reinhard von Lohengramm, Siegfried Kircheis, Yang Wen-li, Julian Mintz, and more. The LotGH heroes also have unique skills that players can utilize to strategize in battle.

The characters will be released in February 2020 as free DLC, and in SUmmer 2020, all of the scenarios will be delivered. Six planned collaboration DLCs will be released by July 2020.

Koei Tecmo and Gust also announced that Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout, the newest game in the Atelier series, would collaborate. It’s unknown what their collaboration will be, from adding characters to the game or releasing their outfits as bonus content.

The collaborations are expected only for Japanese players. It’s unknown if this special DLC will be released outside of Japan.

The Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV is scheduled to be released on PlayStation 4 and PC in North America on February 28, 2020.
