Overwatch 2 is experiencing several server issues, resulting in excessively long wait times and various other problems. Although it may seem as though Blizzard’s servers are simply collapsing due to the large number of players trying to log in for a game, it appears that a widespread distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack is at least primarily to blame for the problems that have been occurring.
According to the president of Blizzard, Mike Ybarra (thanks, VGC), who has revealed that servers are struggling as a result of the attack and that staff at Blizzard are striving diligently to mitigate and control the attack, this is the case. Ybarra further asserts that this DDoS attack is why a significant number of players currently have connection problems.
On his own Twitter account, Ybarra shared the unfortunate news that our systems are currently being subjected to a widespread DDoS attack. The teams are putting forth a lot of effort to reduce or manage. Unfortunately, this is generating a significant number of drops and connection problems.
This attack is likely to blame for a number of problems that have been reported since the introduction of the game, including excessive wait times and disconnected servers. Additionally, as a result of the attack, several players have been prevented from accessing previously purchased cosmetics. This raises the possibility that the attack was also responsible for players’ skins, items, and currency from the previous version of Overwatch not being transferred over to the new version of the game.
In any event, it is quite probable that Blizzard will have the problem fixed in a relatively short amount of time. However, if you want to give the developers plenty of time to correct things, it is recommended that you wait until tomorrow to finally start playing Overwatch 2.
