PlayStation has announced the games coming to their PS Plus service for February. They’re even giving a bit of a bonus this time since one of the games is a collection!
The three games on hand are Sims 4, Firewall Zero Hour, and Bioshock: The Collection. If you’re unfamiliar with the Bioshock Collection, it includes all three games: Bioshock, Bioshock 2, and Bioshock Infinite.
Two games have been available for January: Goat Simulator and UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection. While both will be coming off PS Plus, there’s a good chance they’ll end up being sold at a discount for Plus members.
For those who may be unfamiliar to PS Plus, the service works similarly to Microsoft’s Games With Gold. Members of the service receive the games for free during the time allotted with the free titles rotating monthly. It’s perfectly possible that you already have the game in question. If this is the case, then you’re unfortunately out of luck. You might even have all the games being offered, as they’re normally pretty popular titles.
Thankfully, you get to keep the games that you download! You’ll maintain access to any games you download from PS Plus so long as you also maintain an active membership. If you let your membership end, though, you lose the games along with any other perks from the PS Plus service.
If you intend to keep the games, make sure you download them as they become available. It might take a bit of rearranging and uninstalling on your desktop, but not every game is available for the same amount of time.
PlayStation is also continuing their trend of putting up classics. While this is great (who doesn’t want to play a classic?), it makes it a bit more iffy when you realize that a lot of people probably already have whatever the game is. Take the aforementioned Goat Simulator, which sold millions of copies. It isn’t super useful to give someone a free copy of something they probably already have. Add in the fact that a lot of the games are pretty old (the most recent game in Bioshock’s franchise is from 2013) and you’re running a pretty low chance of giving someone a new game.
Regardless of the likelihood that a player may or may not have a game, it’s still a fantastic way for some gamers to explore a new title. Whether you get the free titles or not, it’s always worth looking through the discounts and other perks. Keep an eye out on PS Plus to see if something you want is coming your way!
