Square Enix gave RPG fans the chills: Octopath Traveler 0 is slated to release on December 4, 2025. This chilling announcement came from an official account on Twitter, making all the RPGs go berserk on the Internet. Seriously, who saw that coming? The teaser was kick-ass good, and fans went berserk over what this prequel or maybe, sequel or sidequel might add in terms of lore to the HD-2D dear to their hearts.
A barrage of reactions poured over the Internet, some wildly enthusiastic, whereas others, well, that’s where they draw the line. One John Carter sang a loud and proud “OU YEAH!” that could power a small city. Amid these, user n050up4u1 was questioning Square Enix by saying, “What the hell is it with squeenix and 0?” If you ask me, that’s a fair question. The company does seem to really like weird prequels and numbers—Kingdom Hearts, anyone?
Now Guilherme Melo is hyping hard in Portuguese: “KARALHO MEU IRMÃO, PEAK.” That means “HOLY CRAP MY BRO, THIS IS PEAK” in loose English. The vibes are real, people! But some are not happy with it: WhiteSkull retaliated, “WHO CARES! IT STOLE SILKSONG,” because apparently the Hollow Knight fans are still waiting for their own game and will riot about anything that’s not it.
The argument whether the Octopath Traveler 2 was any good or not comes back to the table with RamizelQueen claiming that her opinion is it “was miles better than OT1, in everything.” Another player, Odin, said that he’s yet to finish OT2 and honestly, same dude. Life gets busy. But Simonplays6 stands firmly for it and is freaking out over the rumored town-build gameplay on the new one: “Omg I’m so sold! Can’t wait.” If true, we could be staring at an entirely new gameplay mechanic.
Right about now, conflicts regarding platforms took root, of course as expected. Some Xbox fans, meyerpark included, were very happy announcing that Octopath Traveler 0 is coming to all systems. “Yes Xbox ver for me. So glad it’s all coming to Xbox,” it was gushed. Lou BilL chimed in, “I’ll get it anywhere else,” which is… cool? Thanks for that, Lou.
The time of Mothboy Luka was just the worst: “I was just complaining about never having a customizable character in OPT and then this dropped not even 3 minutes later lol.” Either fate has a very dark sense of humor or Square Enix might be secretly stalking fan complaints. Either way, if customization is in this one, that means a lot.
Not everything was sunshine and rainbows. Hadigan Matter called the Switch 2 version “utter trash,” though it isn’t apparent if they’ve even played it or just woke up on the wrong side of the bed. And, of course, the saying had to be uttered: “Square Enix cooking once again,” by Abombernation.
So really, what did we actually know about? Far too little, if you press me. The tease was precious little about the game itself, but that December 2025 is there etched in stone. Is it a prequel, expanding the world before the first game? Rebooting it? Side story with new mechanics? Nobody knows; the speculations are already wild. One thing’s for sure: Square Enix sure does know how to get a conversation going. Whether it will ever come close to living up to the hype of Octopath Traveler 0, well… that gives the ground for debate until next year.
At least it is not another mobile game. That’s something, right?!
