Over on the PlayStation Blog, Sid Shuman said that the next State of Play will showcase 18 minutes of new footage/gameplay from Ghost of Tsushima. He also made it clear that the live stream will only show content from Sucker Punch’s upcoming game, saying that it won’t feature any news regarding the PlayStation 5.

“The episode will be focused entirely on Ghost of Tsushima, coming to PS4 July 17,” said Sid Shuman. “You’ll get an extended look at new gameplay footage, including exploration, combat and more. The current cut is clocking in around 18 minutes, give or take.

“And just to be clear — there won’t be any PS5 news or updates in this episode, just a big, beautiful look at Sucker Punch’s PS4 open-world epic.”

It’s been five months since PlayStation’s last State of Play live stream, which showcased games that have since been released, such as Dreams, the Resident Evil 3 remake, and the Kingdom Hearts III DLC.

Originally, Ghost of Tsushima was scheduled to be released in June, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused Sucker Punch to delay the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive.

Recently, an upcoming edition of the PlayStation Magazine leaked online, and it revealed some gameplay details — which are listed below — from Ghost of Tsushima, some of which could be covered during Thursday’s State of Play.

  • The game begins with the Mongol empire invading and attacking the Island of Tsushima.
  • There will be no waypoints to guide the player.
  • Players will be required to use their knowledge of the world and landmarks to explore and discover new locations.
  • The story will pass as the player will explore the world. Titles will tell how much time has passed since the invasion.
  • An enemy’s blood can be spilled with quick iaijutsu strikes.
  • It’s possible to remain undetected while roaming enemy base camps using the grappling hook.
  • Jin (Ghost of Tsushima’s main protagonist) can use gadgets such as sticky arrows and firebombs.
  • The strength of Jin’s bond with the game’s side characters is determined by the players’ choices. Allies can turn against you depending on your actions.
