Netflix would be setting up something huge with the K-Pop Demon Hunters movie, with Fortnite jumping into the picture. A number of game developers contacted Netflix for partnerships, and being considered as one was Epic Games by players. A lot of chatter about the Fortnite x HUNTR/X crossover has been stirring among players ever since Fortnite started bringing a lot of music-themed content, including the Festival Pass.
So, what exactly is K-Pop Demon Hunters? In reality, the movie is HUNTR/X, which follows a group of K-Pop idols who secretly slay demons, with some supercharged music and paranormal action thrown into the mix. That’s the kind of hyperbole that really fits on the growing list of mad crossovers that Fortnite already boasts. Plus, since Fortnite already has skins from Family Guy, Godzilla, and Metallica, demon-hunting K-pop stars would really be just another step.
This tweet caused an uproar, with some players being quite psyched about the prospects. One user, @Magik_IRL, said that the characters would fit perfectly with Fortnite skin designs, especially considering the game’s music-themed battle pass. Another, @kalosian_violet, thought that the groups’ supernatural powers and musical edge gave them a natural fit with Fortnite’s current superhero-themed season.
But some were doubting it. Skepticism arose; @isthisrealsfy wondered aloud if such a crossover would even make sense, only to be drowned by responses reminding that inside Fortnite collabs are never set according to a strict logic. The eloquence of @GGchipz describes it best: “Almost no collab fits, and that’s the point—it’s a COLLAB.”
Others started dreaming of what it might look like. @Voodoo_Hendrix speculated about HUNTR/X getting a Metallica treatment, wherein each character would gain a skin in the Music Pass. Apparently, folks like @WhatUpTank are hoping for a Fort-themed skin (whatever that means). Naturally, this all brings about the Michael Jackson requests (@FatToni665397, we see you).
That would be not the first Netflix-Fortnite collab. Stranger Things, Money Heist, and The Witcher came to make it all the way to battle royale, basically giving Epic the blank check to go nuts with Netflix’s IP.
When more might be heard is, well, anyone’s guess. No announcements about any gaming partnership with HUNTR/X have been made by Netflix, and, naturally, Epic never lets any details out until the day of the drop. All things considered, it don’t sound like too bad a bet for a near-future disclaimer announcement with the movie just around the bend.
While waiting, gamers will have to keep their ears grounded for any possible clues—a cryptic tweet from the Fortnite social team or a sudden leak from a dataminer. One thing is for sure. If this crossover happens, it’s going to be loud.
