It’s pretty amazing to see how long the Assassin’s Creed series has been able to thrive. Every couple of years, Ubisoft puts out a new installment featuring new storylines, conspiracies, and generally improved gameplay.
There have been a lot of great titles under this banner, but one of the most anticipated is without a doubt Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. It’s putting vikings and their often considered barbaric culture front and center. The teasers that we’ve gotten to this point paint a very atmospheric experience when law and order was pretty much absent.
Ubisoft has kept details and gameplay pretty close to their chest regarding this game, but that’s probably going to change soon. Ubisoft Forward — a fully digital gaming conference — is set to go down on July 12. It is here when Ubisoft has plans of unveiling more details on some of the bigger projects they have cooking in the oven, including Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
What will be shown isn’t entirely clear at the moment, but many are leaning towards more story breakdowns and hopefully, some gameplay.
Fans of this action-adventure series are hoping the developer has progressed the combat in impactful ways. Ubisoft has done a good job in this regard with several recent installments, including Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
Both games have been received well for the most part, and Ubisoft has the chance to pick up where these games left off from a design standpoint.
As far as the story, not much is known at the moment other than the fact that the game takes place during 873 AD. The vikings are invading Britain as part of their European expansion.
Players will be taking on the role of Eivor, a viking raider who finds himself in the midst of the storied conflict between the Brotherhood of Assassins and the Templar Order.
All in all, it seems like a compelling story and an even more intriguing time period. It’s safe to assume that Ubisoft Forward will feature more of Valhalla’s characters and open-ended environments.
As it stands now, Valhalla is scheduled to release later in 2020. It’s definitely one of the more anticipated games this year and seems like a pretty big departure from what Ubisoft has done with the series prior.
Hopefully, it progresses the series and makes full use of the technology offered on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X. July 12 should give us a better indication of its true potential.
