Alright, hunters, gather around! Capcom has unleashed another spicy Challenge Quest in Monster Hunter, this time for the titular Mizutsune in the Wounded Hollow. And with it comes some very cute theme pendants depending on how well you do. And, like any other time, the Monster Hunter community sure has a lot to say about it.
Before the lowdown—this Challenge Quest is now live, and you can gain three different types of pendants by the end of it depending on whether you were rated A, B, or C. The better rank you get, the cooler the pendant. Too simple to believe, huh? Well, the whole community has already started going crazy about how difficult the quest is, about the pre-set gear, or even whether these pendants would ever come back if you missed out on them.
Let’s get for real. Some other hunters are doing their very best. Midlayf, for instance, teamed up with his brother for a ridiculously fast completion; then there was Zen_Neurobio, dropping a clean completion screenshot like it was nothing to brag about; then we have CatsTheWarlock and BrandonCade2000 trying to keep at around the 4-minute mark with literally only seconds holding them away from A-rank. The struggle is real, guys.
And this is where we get the real sauce: many players are displeased with the pre-made armor sets and weapons; Sunrie called it “the dumbest thing in this game.” Truth indeed. Fighting a Mizutsune with gear that doesn’t even suit the matchup is like trying to fit in a butter knife for dragon fighting. Still, some hunters, like Twilos2, are glad Dual Blades became an option this time, while others, like FugoP1, declare Charge Blade to be their number one for the fight.
And now for the great pendant discussion. Akaii_King brought up the question as to whether these pendants would ever be put on sale again and…well, Capcom has remained absolutely silent on that. Given how past events are situated, it is quite possible that they will remain contractually exclusive. That concerns some players, mostly those who have been missing out on A-rank by just a matter of seconds twice in a row. KWishun summed it up quite well: “Why can’t I get paired with these people who get A ranks?”
Let’s not forget about the cheater drama. Apparently, at one point Capcom had certain rewards that could only be obtained at top ranks; however, at some point, cheaters ruined the fun, so the rewards started being given out for any rank. RottingForest and l’écureuil perchés confirmed this—so at least you don’t have to worry about some hacker stealing your pendant.
So, what we are thinking? If you want those pendants, then you really have to pull it together, get the right weapons (Dual Blades and Charge Blade seem to be the MVPs here), and maybe bring a friend along for the ride. Or, y’know, just embrace the whole B-rank life like MegaKrinkle, and call it a day. Whatever way you decide, the Mizutsune Challenge Quest is a pretty harsh one, and the Monster Hunter community is really feeling it. Good luck out there, hunters: you are really going to need it.
