The Silent Hill franchise is one of the most iconic and highly acclaimed franchises in gaming history at this point. With the first one coming out more than fifteen years ago and the most recent seeing release all the way back in 2012, the Silent Hill franchise managed to completely revolutionize the horror genre in just eight short years.
Of course, technically the most recent title to come out of the franchise is the famous P.T., a brief demo/trailer that still to this day perplexes and amazes horror fans. This “simple trailer” was so complex and incredible that even six years later, fans are still playing through and discovering new things about it.
Unfortunately, the full game was never released, and the title died down as a trailer, never to be seen past that. A big part of this is because Hideo Kojima, one of the primary minds behind the Silent Hill franchise, had a bit of a nasty split with Konami a few years ago. Working as a writer, director, and designer on all of the Metal Gear games from 1987 to 2015 and as director and designer for P.T., Kojima was eventually eschewed out of Konami, going on to rebuild Kojima Productions and work on more games, such as last year’s Death Stranding.
Since then, there’s been no word on the Silent Hill franchise – but fans like to make the rumors themselves if Konami won’t. Fans have spent the last few weeks discussing the possibilities of a new Silent Hill title, believing that Konami would soon be making an announcement on the famous franchise.
But it seems that the rumors were unfounded and untrue from top to bottom. Konami themselves made an announcement earlier today, stating that there was no truth to the rumors and that they weren’t in production of a Silent Hill title in any way.
“We’re aware of all the rumors and reports but can confirm that they are not true,” a representative of the North American Konami branch stated in an email to reporters with Relyonhorror. “I know it’s not the answer your fans may want to hear. It’s not to say we are completely closing the door on the franchise, just not in the way it is being reported.”
That seems to be the nail in the coffin for the recent rumors, but it’s good to know that they aren’t throwing the franchise away completely. Still, it’s been six years since P.T. and eight since the last full title in the franchise. How open can the door still be?
