Blizzard has woven a massive amount of secrets into the new zones of their World of Warcraft: Shadowlands expansion. This includes mounts, cosmetics, treasures, items, and of course, gear.
With a new expansion, everyone is (for a moment at least) on a similar power level again. Even characters that were geared for Mythic Ny’alotha end up replacing their most powerful items with a green quest reward at some point.
That makes it so that when one can find a more powerful weapon, for example, it can provide a massive bonus. At the moment, mythic dungeons – the highest available content – drops the most powerful gear, but they can be a bit daunting.
So a recent secret is bringing some good news to classes that wield two-handed swords, like Death Knights, Paladins, and Warriors! Players are able to complete a bit of a gauntlet of acquisitions to obtain Sorrowbane, an epic two-handed sword in Maldraxxus.
First off, it’s important to note that this weapon is only visible to max level characters, so you’ll have to get to 60. Additionally, you’ll have to make sure that the world quest A Few Bumps Along the Way is up, as you’ll need a buff it gives to complete this process.
First, go to the Theater of Pain in Maldraxxus – the location, not the instanced dungeon! There you can find Oonar’s Arm holding the sword, which players aren’t strong enough to lift. Therefor, you just have to get buff!
Purchase a Potion of Unusual Strength from Au’larrynar, as well as a Strength of Blood from Ta’tru. You’ll also want a way to teleport back to the Theater of Pain, so buy a scroll from One-Eyed Joby or set your hearthstone to the Theater.
Go and complete the mentioned world quest to obtain the buff Battle Hardened, and the 10-minute timer starts – rush to Glutharn’s Decay and click 4 Edible Redcaps. Instantly hearth/teleport back to the Theater and move as fast as you can – gliders, blinks, and other movement abilities are very useful here.
Get to the arm before the buffs have faded and chug both potions. You then have 25 seconds to click the arm to obtain Oonar’s Arm as a companion, as well as to loot Sorrowbane itself. The sword is bind-on-pickup, so this is the only way you’ll obtain it!
Once you have the sword, congratulations! Not counting mythic dungeons, this is the most powerful weapon you’ll find, sitting at 180 ilvl compared to the 171 of heroics and 184 of mythics. It also has an extremely powerful effect, providing a chance to instantly execute creatures with less than 20% hp.
There’s a good chance you’ll be using this weapon for a while, and it’s a considerable buff for characters that just hit 60. While it’s a bit of a gauntlet to obtain, it’s a wonderful jump ahead, so do your best to grab it while you can!
