After an eternity of rumors, leaks, and anxious fan anticipation, the Grand Theft Auto VI announcement everyone has waited for has been released by Rockstar Games for May 26, 2026. Yes, read it again: 2026. So two years from now; however, a circled date had to be something at least.
Across all different Rockstar social media platforms, the announcement brought the whole internet down. I mean, down. For the past two years, anything tangible has been withheld from the fans except the forceful leaks and job postings to suggest almost a confirmation of the game. And now? We have a date. One real date instead of some random date from a YouTuber’s imagination.
Anything we relate to know so far? Really not much. Rockstar has been more secretive than a heist movie vault. Based on prior leaks (that were, if we’re being honest, scray), we can cautiously do guess that GTA VI might bring us back to Vice City, albeit with modern hinterlands. You know, like neon lights, long beach strips, and a whole lot of chaos. There are whispers about more than one player character, perhaps a Bonnie and Clyde situation—now, that’s the first.
But let’s be real: 2026 is so far away. Like, probably three more E3s, another console generation, and who ever knows how many more updates for GTA Online—before we will even think about laying our hands on it. Rockstar is infamous for being rather slow in bringing games to the market, and the one thing we’ve learned from the development of Red Dead Redemption 2 is that there really is no such thing as a “rush” in the vocabulary of Rockstar. The time in between is going to hurt.
For now, though, GTA Online is sure not to start slowing down anytime soon. With the launch of the San Andreas Mercenaries update behind them and more rumored updates ahead, it appears Rockstar is keeping fans busy while they dream up whatever crazy mayhem is represented by GTA VI. Let’s be serious—nothing could touch that level of transition from GTA IV to GTA V.
So, what’s next? More cryptic tidbits, and if we’re lucky, a trailer late 2025 (definitely one full of meme after meme from the fanbase about their impatience). But right now, though, it is happening, 26 May 2026. Jot it down. Set an alarm. Starting preparing for that inevitable Collector’s Edition. And may you set endure until that moment.
See you in chaos in Los Santos until then, though. Or, uh, we could replay Vice City for the hundredth time while we wait. Either way.
