The procuring of the Icon Series emote featuring Gracie Abrams’ song “That’s So True” has given the Fortnite players’ community a massive field for opinions. Divided into the groups who like it, dislike it, and simply cannot understand the choice of song, the price tag of 500 V-Bucks has not helped the matter.
For one thing, the emote comprised a short clip from the track, and something just felt wrong because of it to the players. The word “off” was bleeped, sending many of the players into different kinds of reactions. A player, @tycemo707, reacted, “Chose the worst possible part of the song and then bleeped the word ‘off’ 😭🙏🏻.” Like, why… why? Fortnite is rated T for Teen. So, it’s not like it was an especially scandalizing word.
Then there were the apt questions: is this emote even good? Some players did not feel it at all, like @Fox_Warrior804: “EWE ANOTHER ONE LOOKS SO GIRLY WHAT’S WITH ALL THE GIRLY ICON EMOTES YUCK!!!! 😭💔.” Others could not even grasp such sensation: @TheSliceofAnime tweeted, “I mean peak that we got more Gracie Abrams but like why that part of the song?…”
And, of course, it being Fortnite, some of the players were lost immediately for other emotes. @Kalani74486410 begged: “we need Without me by eminem icon emote 🙏 cos i need to pray for this.” Then, @OGBlackWidowFan went full meme: “We want Obama instead.” Classic.
But, obviously, there were those who loved it. Another crowd seemed to go for it: @joshieRAWCKS stated, “knowing he’s 14 but still so incredibly down.” Then, @023ShqneFN declared charitable intentions: “I will gift someone this dance please follow me and add i will pick you my name and vbucks.”
So the question becomes: who’s gonna buy this? @Sue_1C wondered, “I wonder if people will buy this lol.” Considering how Fortnite has fared with Icon Series emotes (looking at you, “Savage”), presumably well, even as half the playerbase roasts it.
The replies had by then turned into a full-on debate on who is the real target audience of Fortnite. @LocalXmx argued: “Get you off” Fortnite is a game made for children you realize that?” To which @tycemo707 replied: “Fortnite is rated T for teen 13+ 😂.” So yeah, the discourse is heated.
All said, the Gracie Abrams emote made its entry and brought chaos with itself-one way or the other. Will it be the next viral dance? No. Will people argue about it to death? Absolutely. This is how Fortnite works-drop a new cosmetic and watch the internet lose it.
Also, oh yeah! If you want this emote, it’s 500 V-Bucks. Just don’t say we never told you what would happen to it in the lobby.
