Halloween at Yōtei got an extra dressing with a new trailer from PlayStation that would aide the players in choosing their favorite weapons and selections now being in the groove. Set to be shipped on October 2nd, the title sets off with an action-adventure plot around the protagonist Atsu, having the ability to wield a plethora of weapon types, and that in itself adds more layers of complexity and richness to the combat system. Now, some portion of the community was hyped about it, but the rest had those, well, highly divergent reactions.
Now we need to talk about the weapons. Atsu’s arsenal contains many types: katanas, spears, and a rather dangerous kusarigama [a sickle with chains for the uninitiated]. One gamer, Sora (@Red7Cat77), is already behind the spear/kusarigama combo, calling it an upgrade over weapons from the Ghost of Tsushima; on the other side stands J5 (@icomaki2), who has gone for the katana and complimented the slickness of the combat as seen in the trailers. And then there is Soulbound TV (@Soulbound_TV), who just wants to “look cool while missing every parry.” I get it.
But, of course, it wasn’t all smiles. Some players like Henry (@HenryMacD) don’t want to know it: it’s “not a real sequel.” Then you got Geek Hazu (@GeekHazu) who went on to say that it felt like an “endless Lady Masako side quest” from Ghost of Tsushima—ouch. And that, of course, stands next to those PS5 overheating complaints from What Kind of Name is Stove (@Apathetic_Toast) that their console can’t even do new games without turning into a space heater. Bad times indeed.
And then comes the issue of performance: With Matt G (@loinmin) demanding 120Hz while calling 60fps on PS5 “ridiculous,” there are others like Locked In (@VikingNightOwl) who are already calling Ghost of Yōtei Game of the Year. A stark contrast of views.
Now we are into some weirdly unrelated stuff. Adalynn (@Adalynn9195185) says it’s a great beach day-good for her but maybe not on-topic. Simple (@SimpleStrangerr), on the other hand, has been screaming about his missed captures in the PlayStation app. Priorities, people.
These hopes are floating into the air about multiplayer. Eric (@EricLyonsRealty) is, more or less, hoping for some fun multiplayer like in Ghost of Tsushima. Then followed the conspiracies from Sentinel_76 (@76_sentinel) that the wolf featured in the trailer is Jin Sakai reborn. Sure, why not.
Well, in the end, Ghost of Yōtei is shaping up to be a highly anticipated but rather divisive title. And October 2nd cannot come soon enough with either the weapons or the drama or just to see if the game will break your PS5 or not. Excuse me for a moment while I go practice my parrying skills so I don’t tear the house down like Soulbound TV.
