Alright, so let’s get to the point without beating around the bush. The next Fortnite LEGO update has been made official and will be based on the Ninjago: Dragons Rising Season 3. You heard it right! The series’ four main ninjas: Kai, Jay, Cole, and Zane, will be portrayed in the LEGO Fortnite universe using their newest series designs. The one big question that surrounds this whole issue is whether these characters will be actual skins that players can use or just a part of the world building. This rumor comes from the trusted sources Blortzen and ItsMeLeaky, who dropped this ‘bombshell’ on Twitter and created a huge buzz in the entire community with their post.
So, what does this really mean for the Fortnite players? If you have been following the third season of Ninjago’s Dragons Rising, you probably know that the ninjas have changed their looks quite a lot. And the audience’s feedback regarding the new looks has been… mixed at the very least. Some players simply cannot get over the fact that Jay has a new haircut and one user @returnkratospls is pleading with Fortnite, “please dont use that hair for jay”. On the other hand, we have those who are mourning Zane’s transformation with @Catabonk sobbing over “Zane’s chopped hair” and posting a string of broken heart emojis that pretty much encapsulate the mood.
The community’s response has been a mix of opinions. Some are so pumped up that they are almost unbelievable, like @Personathe2 who next to a GIF of someone praying wrote “PLEASE BE SKINS PLEASE BE SKINS”. Others are less enthusiastic and talk about their doubts regarding the new designs; @SylvaticSword82 says “i love ninjago but i dont really like the latest suits”. Then again, there is the whole debate about whether Fortnite should have kept the original classic designs or gone with the current Dragons Rising ones. @Crack81787811 even claimed they would prefer the old designs to the redesigns, which appears to be a popular sentiment among long-time Ninjago fans.
But wait, what was my point again—oh yes, the update’s potential is vast! If the skins do come to the gameplay, we would then have the pleasure of having four new ninja characters in the LEGO form that would be getting their own unique emotes and maybe even special powers in the game. The original leak didn’t specify whether they would be skins or just characters for the environment, but the community is sure hoping for the former. @Flipzo7 even made a specific request: “Please dont make zane shirtless, also please let these be skins” which… leads to some queries about what exactly happened to Zane in the new season that is causing everybody to be so concerned about his wardrobe.
This development could not have come at a better time. The Ninjago Dragons Rising saga has been gradually unveiling its plot, and Season 3 looks to have taken the characters to some amazing new locations. From what I can gauge from the comments, Jay has gone through some radical transformations—@Joshuasvampire asked “What happened to my goat jay” and the responses hint that he lost his memories, got transformed into a bounty hunter, and got that much-discussed new haircut that is either loved or hated. There are even references made to Zane and “chopped hair” now and apparently one user is anxious about him being shirtless? The Ninjago mythos has undoubtedly become pretty elaborate since I last tuned in.
And you know there will always be someone bringing up completely off-topic things—@renz88x1 somehow turned the entire issue into a debate about LGBTQ+ representation by asking “who tf wants an LGBT Lego show in Fortnite” to which @Durdegfghc replied “Yall are never happy” and frankly that sums up the situation on gaming Twitter quite well. Meanwhile, @LORDBernas is already dreaming about the future and wishing that the “Forbidden five” characters would be included too, which indicates that gamers always want more even before the initial content drop.
What a remarkable development that Fortnite is continuously bringing in new elements from different worlds. We have had Marvel, Star Wars, and now the cutting-edge Ninjago’s new season as the latest crossovers, while the LEGO mode has rightfully earned the title of the best playground for such collaborations. The fact that they are opting for the freshest designs straight from Dragons Rising Season 3 indicates that Epic Games is not just borrowing the classic versions that everyone remembers but is actually keeping up with the Ninjago tale.
This update probably coincides with the airing of Dragons Rising Season 3, thus creating a nice synergetic relationship between the game and the series. Quite frankly, it is a smart marketing strategy and it also gives Ninjago fans a new means of interacting with their favorite characters on PlayStation and Xbox.
