It’s only about seven days before the day of Christmas, but Fortnite is yet to bring the holidays to its player base. And perhaps, “better late than never” is what Epic Games is implementing. Just today, the official Twitter account Fortnite Status tweets that v11.31 goes live tomorrow. The fans go wild!
“Downtime begins at 4 AM ET,” the update says. Fans and data-miners are already anticipating the game’s holiday event called Winterfest. This update, though it’s only going to be seven days before Christmas, is also expected to bring substantial content for everyone.
It can be remembered that players were greeted with the in-game announcement before for the Winterfest. Epic Games originally scheduled the event to go live on Tuesday, December 17. Though nothing has been confirmed yet, reports suggest that Winterfest will run for the next 14 days.
Impatient fans have data-mines a few back-end files for the said event. Holiday-themed challenges such as Use Presents!, Open Frozen Loot, Seach Ice Boxes, and Seach Holiday Stockings in the Winterfest Cabin have been data-mined. Files for presents and rewards, daily gifts, and the expected loading screen have also been found in the game’s files.
Since Fortnite is free to play for everyone, Epic Games has to make money somewhere. A new Item Shop cosmetic items that are themed for the coldest season of the year are likely to be available. The Glacial Legends that include the Frozen Fishstick, Nog Ops, and Devourer skins are all highly anticipated.
A trusted data-miner named HYPEX also suggests a new Fortnite Chapter 2 map that’s covered in snow. On his leak, he also indicated that the update would patch new structures in the battle royale maps. These structures involve a toy factory, “a big ice hotel,” a ski building, and an old Crackshot. Whether these serve any significant advantage, or lack thereof, to the players is yet to be discovered.
Another leak from the same data-miner shows the supposed trailer video for Winterfest. In the clip, a new “Winterfest Cabin” is featured, which players expect to have some in-game purpose. Several fans suggest that this could be the place to claim presents or a kind of hub for the event.
It can be noted that during Fortnite’s Halloween event, Fortnitemares, the horror event didn’t go live right after the patch. It came available to players six hours after the update, which players are already anticipating for Winterfest to avoid any disappointment.
Fortnite’s official Trello page has updated the current in-game issues that will be fixed in v11.31. These fixes include a fix to the “Eliminations without aiming down sights” challenge not to track correctly, repaired the “Join Party” option, and the issue that players can see the edit option on enemy walls.
They also fixed the Save The World’s scoped sniper to not show their crosshair and heroes not displaying in the lobby after consecutive missions. Mobile’s Fire/Build button is also fixed when it disappears after jumping with glider, and the tutorial has been re-enabled.
