Nintendo has made a significant announcement that no one was left out. A massive update is allowing the players to enter the fight between Fortnite and The Simpsons and check out Springfield on the Nintendo Switch alongside the upcoming Switch 2. This is hard to believe; in fact, you can explore some of the most iconic sites of the animated series while making your presence felt in Epic’s battle royale game.
The collaboration was disclosed in an official tweet from Nintendo that was showing the partnership, inviting gamers to “drop into Springfield” and see some classic Simpsons places. It is ready for immediate access and those wishing to see Homer’s nuclear plant or Moe’s Tavern while they are dodging the bullets can step in right away. This is one of those instances when two completely different worlds collide, and although it feels totally strange, it is somehow right.
On the flip side, the players’ response has been nothing less than mixed. A mere glance at the replies would present how the gaming community has been bifurcated in this matter.
There are some people who are really very excited about the situation. The user juantr0n did not hesitate to say “Thank you Nintendo. This is great season,” while the user Corners simply wrote “That crossover looks fun” accompanied by a balloon emoji. It can be said that there is a good deal of enthusiasm among those gamers who are regular Fortnite players for many years – RJ_AnimationsYT remarked that they have been playing it on Switch since the launch and on Xbox for the last three years, while also stating that the performance on Switch 2 has improved.
However, criticism exists as well. Old_Timer_Gamer, for example, expressed his opinion bluntly: “Switch can hardly run fortnite lol” and… to some extent, you are correct if you point out the performance issues of the original Switch. Zxcclipperzz went one step further and referred to the whole thing as “Shit from an ass.” Quite harsh indeed.
Nevertheless, what is really fascinating is that people are taking the Simpsons partnership as an opportunity to express their desires for actual Simpsons games on Switch. SchellerTrevyn was asking whether “Simpsons Arcade, Simpsons Road Rage, Simpsons Hit and Run, and The Simpsons Game” could be seen on Switch while nicolasembleton specifically called for a “remake of Hit & Run on Switch 1+2!” Clearly, people want those classic Simpsons games to be available and this Fortnite crossover has just reminded them of what they don’t have.
Another point of contention has been the whole Nintendo character situation, which is always one of the main arguments when it comes to Nintendo’s Fortnite promotion. Locke_PSB pouted it was a “missed opportunity” to not include Samus or Zero Suit Samus as skins. But LPNintendoITA countered with “never gonna happen” and explained that “Nintendo refused to back down on locking the skins to their platform, Epic refused to back down on not doing that.” That is the reason we have not seen Mario with a gun running around in the battle royale; it is just the stubbornness of both sides.
Performance issues were cited repeatedly in the comments. FamilyGuyFAN44Y asked, “How is switch 1 handling these types of graphics for the people that play on it?” which is, after all, a very reasonable question considering Fortnite’s graphics have become really demanding over the years. The original Switch was not exactly the most powerful console, but that’s no excuse as it is now getting too old for modern games.
On the other hand, the technical issues were also pointed out a few times – PandaBoxxer said that the last time they tried to log in, “the game wasn’t working” and labeled their battle pass purchase a “scam,” while andlushs reported that “my epic account got hacked so i can’t play” which does sound like a nightmare.
This topic evokes a lot of passion among people. Dave19Brown83 posted a GIF of Homer’s devotion to Bart with the caption “Not giving this game and collab a chance????? WHY YOU LITTLE…” which perfectly conveys the love-it-or-hate-it atmosphere around Fortnite in general.
All this conversation about the collab is really proving that Fortnite is a cultural phenomenon that everybody has a strong opinion about. You have the die-hard fans that never quit playing it, the ones who think it is useless, the nostalgic gamers who only want proper Simpsons games back, and the performance worriers who are determining how their hardware will cope with it.
And to be honest, this is just one of the reasons why gaming communities are so fascinating. Different people have completely different perspectives that depend on their backgrounds and preferences. Some see it as a great new way of traveling to Springfield, others as a notification that they would prefer to be playing Hit & Run, while some just worry about whether their Switch can endure the game without getting overheated or damaged.
Moreover, the mention of PlayStation in gaming discussions often highlights the different platform experiences available to players.
