Fallout 76 didn’t start off with the smoothest launch. In fact, it’s one of the most polarizing games in recent memory. Fans were not happy about the bugs, but more importantly, the lack of NPCs. They have been absent and in a game that’s all about character interaction, that was a strange choice from Bethesda.
They’re looking to rectify the situation with the highly anticipated Wastelanders update. It’s most notable improvement is the addition of NPCs. That’s right. Fallout 76 players will be able to engage in meaningful dialogue with other characters. That addition alone should make Fallout 76 a much better game overall.
As it stands now, this huge update is set to release April 7. That’s a couple of months away. We’ve been treated to some details on some of the changes coming. For example, there will be two new bases for the settlers and raiders. The latter will be situated around an abandoned space station, which is pretty amazing based on details the developer has shared.
Now, thanks to some more news from Bethesda, we have a little more information on the allies that you’ll be able to form bonds with after the Wastelanders update goes live. For starters, you’ll have the complete freedom to recruit whoever you want to be an ally. That’s great news if you’re favoring a particular NPC you come across when moving through the post-apacolpytic lands of West Virginia.
Once an ally is recruited, they’ll appear around your settlement. You have the ability to talk to them whenever you want, and doing so will give you access to short missions. They’ll be available each day. That’s also great news if you’ve waited for some meaningful content to finally come to Fallout 76. The game is massive in size, and if you’re playing solo, it can be a lonely experience. Being able to interact with allies should bring some cheer to your day.
Bethesda also notes that you’ll be able to form a romantic relationship with some of the allies of your liking. That should give rise to some unique moments that have not been present in this game thus far. Romantic interests have always been a huge part of RPGs, so it’s nice to see Bethesda finally going down this track.
Fallout 76 still has a long way to go before it can be considered a hit, but it looks like Bethesda’s Wastelanders update is an honest attempt to give fans what they deserve.
