For Fall Guys, Disney’s Genie and Aladdin costumes are back again. Some people were not happy with that. While the official Fall Guys Twitter account let the cat out of the bag with a classic tale-inspired lyric: “A diamond in the rough with luck on their side 🧞,” the community was more focused on FFA’s third anniversary, which was seemingly soaking up some bright light away from the Disney tie-in.
The tweet was a simple announcement: wardrobe return for the Aladdin-based set with Abu the monkey. But the comments gave a very different account. Players were quick to cast shade at the devs for slights-on-purpose of the FFA anniversary: “You really had to tweet about this and not the SS1 anniversary?” and “Modern Fall Guys doesn’t even care about SS1 birthday anymore, just consume more Disney slop.”
Quite bitter, one user spammed the comment “CONSUME OUR CORPORATE SLOP” while another said, “This is not SS1, this just a bunch of cheap collabs!” There was unmistakable feeling behind those comments, coupled not due to the ignored anniversary but also because of a few other skin requests from players such as those for Spider-Verse and Street Fighter, implying that perhaps the Disney train could be losing steam for some.
On the flip side, some weren’t actually mad. Some players even said they liked the Aladdin collab, one of whom said, “In fairness, this is the only Disney collab that I’ve purchased. I love my magic carpet!”. So, that’s something. But when looking at the grand scheme of things, players want more than just recycled Disney stuff. They want events and leaderboards to acknowledge the history of the game, too.
Following that are some absurd requests: another one wants to see Lara Croft in Arabic, while others want an anime collab. Fall Guys has always been a game of chaotic and colorfulness, but in the replies, the chaos spilled over.
So what could the future hold? Well, Aladdin skins are back, for better or worse. Plenty will dock the Genie lamp or plant Abu’s tinny little feet in the game, but some are waiting for something more—perhaps the long overdue FFA anniversary celebration. Or, you know, at least a break from this Disney assault.
Can’t argue with that: the devs sure know how to entertain, even if it’s not what the players wanted. Is that good? Eh… to be debated. But hey, at the end of it, we got a magic carpet.
